Let’s be honest: raising a teen and keeping up with an energetic little kid is an Olympic-level sport. Add the phrase “boys will be boys” to the mix, and you already know a regular weekend mall stroll wasn’t going to cut it. We needed action, we needed noise, and most importantly, we needed a safe place to let out some pent-up energy. Enter the ultimate urban escape: The Splat Room.

Whether you’re looking for a unique family bonding experience, a fun afternoon with the kids, or just a hilarious way to watch your usually-glued-to-their-phones boys get wildly out of hand, this is it. Here is the lowdown on our messy, paint-splattered adventure.

Bridging the age gap between a newly minted teen and a younger kid can sometimes feel tricky. One is in that cool, nonchalant phase, while the other is bouncing off the walls with endless curiosity. But put a protective jumpsuit over both of them, hand them a neon bottle of paint, and hand them a canvas? Instant level playing field.

From the second we stepped into the splash zone, the generational gap vanished. My teen completely forgot to look cool as he launched into all-out paint warfare, while my little cousin treated every wall like his personal Jackson Pollock masterpiece.

The Splat Room is a total mom-win for so many reasons. First, you get all the chaotic, sensory-rich fun of finger-painting and throwing things without a single drop of paint touching your own living room walls, since the cleanup crew handles it all. It also offers pure stress relief—there is something wildly therapeutic about winding up and flinging a cup of bright yellow paint at a brick wall, and watching my teen laugh so hard was worth every single peso.

Plus, being right inside SM Megamall provides a top-tier indoor air-conditioning sanctuary from the Manila heat before and after trading your street clothes for hazmat suits.

Best of all, we walked out covered head-to-toe in neon green, pink, and blue, smelling like fresh paint, and giggling the entire walk down to grab snacks, creating instant core memories.

What makes the experience even more customizable is that there are two choices of rooms available to fit your group’s energy. The fun starts even before you step inside: you choose the paints you will be using, and the number of bottles depends on how many people are paying!

Once you are suited up, the arsenal of accessories takes the chaos to a whole level. Forget just using your hands, you get to arm yourselves with water guns loaded with thinned-out paint, fling balloons filled with paint for an explosive pop, splash with cups, use traditional splatter tools, and even rock glow-in-the-dark shades while you make your masterpiece. It turns the whole room into an absolute playground!

Quick Tips for Your Splat Room Mission:

  1. Wear comfy, old clothes underneath: Even with the protective gear provided, wear something you wouldn’t mind an accidental stray drop of paint landing on (especially your shoes!).

  2. Bring a change of clothes: Trust me, you will want a fresh shirt and pants for the trip home. Pack zip-lock bags for your paint-splattered shoes!

  3. Capture the action: Put your phone in a waterproof pouch or assign one person to be the designated “safety photographer” from behind the glass shield. You are going to want to document the utter chaos. They can also lend you a tripod.

The best souvenir to cap off the day? The art that was made on the blank canvas can be taken home and is cleverly packaged in a pizza-like box! Once it dries up, it’s ready to be proudly displayed right at home as a colorful reminder of the day your boys went wild.

If you’re looking to shake up your usual weekend routine with the kids, grab your favorite boys and head on over to Megamall. Because sometimes, the best kind of day is the one that gets a little bit messy.
