There are credible reports that up to 1 million of them are being held in ‘re-education camps’ the form is known as Chinese Voluntary Education and Training, where they are reportedly being captured for brainwashing, with about 10 million Uygar Muslims, a minority Ottoman Muslim group living in the northwest of China.<\/p>\n

This week, Mesut Ozil tweet to highlight his plight.<\/p>\n

Ozil said, “Eastern Turkistan, the bleeding wounds of the Ummah, are trying to separate them from their religion against the oppressors. They burn their Quran. They shut down their mosques. They ban their schools.” They kill. They kill their holy men. The men are kept in camps and their families are forced to live with Chinese men. Women are forced to marry Chinese men.<\/p>\n

“But the Muslims are silent. They did not make noise. He has abandoned them. Do they not know that consenting to persecution is torture on its own? “<\/p>\n

Arsenal went on to distance themselves from these comments, posting their statement on the Chinese forum, Weibo. The Western press does not appear to have been released.<\/p>\n

They were clear. Ozil did not speak for Arsenal. Once again, Mesut Ozil spoke out against racism and oppression and was once again shunned by the very people who should stand by him.<\/p>\n

“Regarding the comments made on social media by Mesut Ozil, Arsenal should make a clear statement,” the club wrote. “Published material” is the personal opinion of Ozil. As a football club, Arsenal have always followed the principle of not involving themselves in politics. “<\/p>\n

It was a bit disappointing when Arsenal put their commercial interests ahead of human rights, when they put Mesut Ozil to dry with their statements about his tweet on the Chinese treatment of Uighurs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
