Taking classes abroad in Barcelona has been a different experience from what I\u2019m used to at the University of Alabama. One of the biggest differences is the people in my classes. Instead of being surrounded by students from Alabama, my classmates come from all over the states from various universities and colleges. Everyone brings different perspectives, which makes even simple discussions more interesting and sometimes more challenging.<\/p>\n

The education system itself also feels different. Classes are often more discussion-based and less structured than what I\u2019m used to. There\u2019s usually a bigger emphasis on independent learning, and professors expect you to keep up without as much guidance. At the same time, some things feel familiar because there are still lectures, assignments, and exams, so it\u2019s not completely unfamiliar. One thing that would be different for most Alabama students is the classroom size. Most of my classes have 20-30 students here. Since I am in a small program at Alabama, this was not much of an adjustment for me, but my friends who came from larger majors were shocked by the difference.<\/p>\n

What really stands out is the worldview aspect. Topics are approached from a more global perspective, and sometimes ideas are framed in ways I hadn\u2019t considered before. It\u2019s made me think more critically and question assumptions about people and cultures I didn\u2019t even realize I had.<\/p>\n

Adjusting hasn\u2019t been super easy, as I\u2019ve had to get comfortable with less structure, different teaching styles, and communicating with teachers who have different first languages and teaching styles. I\u2019ve also had to balance school with the distractions of being in a new city. Overall, it\u2019s been a rewarding experience that\u2019s helped me grow both academically and personally.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
