I’m delighted to wish David Evans ‘Happy Publication Day’ on the launch of his latest novel in The Tendring Series, Discontent. It sees a welcome return to DS Cyril Claydon and DI ‘Dick’ Barton as they take on another challenging murder case set around north Essex in the late 1970s

What’s the Book About?

Clacton-on-Sea, January 1979, the Winter Of Discontent. Britain is on strike. Someone is taking photos. And someone is prepared to kill to keep them secret.

Hospital porter and talented photographer Paul Thompson is quietly documenting the hidden lives of people around him. His photographs capture affairs, suspicious payments, police misconduct and domestic abuse. Then Paul disappears. Days later, his body is discovered beneath a pile of rubbish at Clacton Hospital. DS Cyril Claydon and DI John ‘Dick’ Barton take on the case. Having once had totally opposing views to policing, they have learned to tolerate each other with grudging respect.

Everyone has something to hide. Paul Thompson had the photographs to prove it.

What do readers say about The Tendring series

The author really gets the whole era of that time spot on – Sarah H. (Amazon)

Well written and kept me gripped to the end – (Amazon reviewer)

Having read the whole of David Evans’ Wakefield series to date and loved it, I was very much looking forward to the first of his new Tendring series, and I was not disappointed. Set on the Essex coast during the long hot summer of 1976, the sense of time and place is impressive and the writing is of a very high standard – C Nolan (Amazon Reviewer)

The writer is adept at creating a sense of time (especially as set in 1977) and place with a clever balance of action and description – JB (Amazon Reviewer)

Hooks you in on the first page with an intriguing crime scene. The end twist is great. The story is a clever balance of pace and well-crafted characters – Budha (Amazon Reviewer)

Attention to detail is astonishing in bringing everything together in this wonderful gripping crime novel from days gone bye! – PAB (Amazon Reviewer)

Another terrific Claydon/Barton tale. Cleverly written, the threads pulling together in a very satisfying ending. Incredibly evocative of the period, especially with the little references to actual historical facts of the time – Tony M (Amazon Reviewer)

Brilliantly written full of suspense and intrigue. David Evan’s has another best seller on his hands. All the classic hallmarks when Coppers were Coppers. A great read that will keep you mesmerised with twists and turns. Fabulous writing – John (Amazon Reviewer)

Brilliant read👌fantastic characters and interesting plot. Loved all the Tendring series and looking forward to the next one – P Head (Amaon Reviewer)
