But where education is considered, many Indians think of foreign countries. But very few of them know that there is a city in India which is also known as &#8220;Oxford of the East&#8221; due to its educational history. Here we are going to tell you about the history of the city called &#8220;Oxford of the East.&#8221;&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>City of Pune located in Maharashtra has been bestowed with the unique tag of &#8220;Oxford of the East&#8221; since 1,400 years ago. We all know about the movement of education of girls initiated by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule in the 19th century. But prior to that, this city had already been writing its history. Pune was the capital city of Maratha Empire in the past. Subsequent campaigns for women&#8217;s education brought Pune immense fame.&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>Whether it&#8217;s research, IT management, arts, or medicine, Pune today boasts over 600 colleges and 23 universities. These include prominent institutions like the Agarkar Research Institute, Pune University, National Chemical Laboratory, AIIMS, Fergusson College, College of Engineering Pune, Armed Forces Medical College, and C-DAC. It&#8217;s worth noting that India&#8217;s renowned Film and Television Institute of India is also located in this city.<\/p>\n<p>Pune is also known as the Oxford of the East because it has an atmosphere similar to that of the United Kingdom. Its streets are filled with cafes, vibrant student life, and bookstores.
