I\u2019m moving. Again.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This makes 18 official \u201cmoves.\u201d\u00a0 23 addresses.\u00a0 6 countries.\u00a0 And now my 9th<\/sup> U.S state (and territory).\u00a0<\/p>\n

My first time living in the mid-west.<\/p>\n

And each move gives the opportunity for reflection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The last time I left the DC area, in 2018, I wrote Opportunities and Regrets (part II)<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

In that post, I reflected on things I regretted not doing and seeing during those 3 \u00bd years in DC.\u00a0 Many of them I did over the last few years \u2013 I finally saw the Northeast United States (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut).\u00a0 I\u2019ve been to Miami twice, Key West and returned to New Orleans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

I didn\u2019t make it to Cape Code, Plymouth Rock, Pittsburgh or even Washington\u2019s Distillery (still less than 10 miles away).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ironically, I didn\u2019t make it back to Chicago, but my new home is an easy 4-hour drive away, and the nearest major airport, so I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll spend lots of time there in the next few years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But I also did a lot of US trips that weren\u2019t even on my radar 8 years ago.\u00a0 I spent a weekend in Arkansas, my 50th<\/sup> state.\u00a0 I\u2019ve spent a lot of time in West Virginia.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had a few additional trips to Florida, and saw Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for the first time.\u00a0 I\u2019ve biked the C&O canal.\u00a0 I went to Kansas City just for the World War Two museum and discovered it has a lot to offer.\u00a0 I made it to Texas and Tennessee.\u00a0 I\u2019ve made several short trips to upstate New York and returned to New York City.\u00a0 I had an amazing rafting trip to New Mexico.\u00a0 And so much more\u2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And I made a point of exploring Washington DC and my own back yard.\u00a0 For the last several years I had a New Year\u2019s resolution to do one \u201ctouristy\u201d thing a month.\u00a0 This led me to visit the Alexandria Black History Museum and return to the Archives to see the Power and Light exhibit (which has stuck with me as really fabulous).\u00a0<\/p>\n

What\u2019s my point?\u00a0<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s good to have lists and check them off.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s great to ignore the list and adjust your plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A day trip is a great way to explore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Diving deep for a week or longer can be wonderful.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

There is a lot you can do in your own country or state.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2013 I\u2019ve also had some really spectacular overseas trips in the last five years.\u00a0 But there is a lot to see and do wherever you are with whatever time and money you have.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This will be my first time living in the mid-West.\u00a0 I look forward to exploring St. Louis and Chicago \u201clike a local.\u201d\u00a0 We will be a short drive to Kansas City, Memphis, and Indianapolis.\u00a0<\/p>\n
