Communication
\nStarts Early<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Starting at
\na young age and even before birth, we communicate with our children.\u00a0 <\/span>Verbally or through facial expression, how we
\ncommunicate with others can trigger happiness, sadness, anger or
\ndisappointment. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Babies know
\nwhen we are happy and they know when we are angry.\u00a0 <\/span>Even my dog crawls away when I scold him as
\nif he knows I am disappointed or angry.\u00a0
\n<\/span>So, with that in mind, I get frustrated when I hear parents in the store
\ntelling their child \u201cno\u201d you can\u2019t have that toy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t
\nthink I ever told my kids no.\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, I
\nasked them how they will pay for the item they cried for.\u00a0 <\/span>What will they give up to get that new toy?\u00a0 <\/span>Sometimes they would offer to do chores to
\nearn money to buy something or, not wanting to give anything up, they would
\nstop asking for wasteful items.\u00a0 <\/span>When I
\nhear parents telling their child \u201cno\u201d without a deeper explanation, it makes
\nthe word seem useless.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I also
\ndidn\u2019t make my children share.\u00a0 <\/span>If I was
\nreading a book and someone asked me for it, should I stop reading it and offer
\nit to the other person?\u00a0 <\/span>I never told my
\nkids they must share.\u00a0 <\/span>I did say to them
\n\u201cmake a deal\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>If you want something
\nfrom someone, are you willing to wait and ask for it when they are done?\u00a0 <\/span>Would one child want to give up an item to
\nanother because they are told to?\u00a0 <\/span>Won\u2019t
\nthat just make them resentful? \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>I never
\ngot between my two boys, 12 months apart if they both wanted a toy or
\ngame.\u00a0 <\/span>They always worked it out after
\nknowing mom would tell them to figure it out.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Yes, some parents thought I was nuts when I told them my kids were not
\nrequired to share their items.\u00a0 <\/span>I would
\ntell the other parents to suggest their child makes a deal with mine.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When they
\nwere old enough to crawl, my kids had chores.\u00a0
\n<\/span>They started off lining up their shoes.\u00a0
\n<\/span>They didn\u2019t have to match and even if there were just two shoes, they
\nneeded to be lined up.\u00a0 <\/span>Telling my kids
\nto clean their room was wasteful energy.\u00a0
\n<\/span>What is clean to me may not be clean to others.\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, if it doesn\u2019t belong on the floor,
\nit needs a home.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Communication is what makes up relationships, helps in understanding and can predict outcomes.\u00a0 Good communication can make for the best outcomes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Even today,
\nthe parents of my children\u2019s friends remember I would tell all children
\nplaying in my home, when it’s time to clean up, each child would find five or ten things to put back
