Born Olaniran Samuel Olawale, Sam Kingpin has built his artistry around African rhythms, honest experiences and storytelling.

His sound draws from Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, Afro-pop, soul and elements of Fuji, while his journey from visual art into music and production has given him an instinct for turning real-life observations into songs.

Interestingly, ‘Storyteller’ began in 2016 after Sam found himself scrolling through Instagram and stumbling across news stories that made him question why the struggles of ordinary Nigerians seemed so persistent.

That moment became the spark for a song about economic hardship, rising costs, broken promises and the everyday fight to keep moving.

Ten years later, Sam has reproduced the record for a new audience, and its message carries a striking sense of continuity.

Rather than positioning itself as a direct political attack, ‘Storyteller’ speaks from the perspective of the common person documenting frustration, survival and the hope that things can eventually change.

That is what makes the record feel bigger than its original release.

It is not simply looking back at 2016; it connects that reflection with the realities Sam says inspired its return in 2026.

With ‘Storyteller’, Sam Kingpin turns observation into music giving an ongoing Nigerian story a voice, a rhythm and another chapter.
