The book talks about how God is our shepherd and we are like the little sheep that He watches over and protects. The book inspired me to read through Psalm 139 on my own, to get a deeper understanding of what it means to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast\u2026\u201d \u2013 Psalms 139:1-10 NIV<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone who has wrestled with anxiety and fear, I read this chapter of Psalms through the lens of how knowing that God cares for me can help me\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/laurenmagazine.com\/how-to-overcome-anxiety-the-power-of-your-thoughts\/\">overcome anxiety<\/a>. It can be easy for us to give in to worry and anxiety in different areas of our life. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I often worry about things like money, whether or not I\u2019ll be able to find a good job when I return to work someday, what type of school to send my children to, whether my children will be physically and spiritually safe, or whether or not I will succeed at the things I love to do.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when I look back on my life, I see a pattern: I have always been provided for. Everything I\u2019ve ever been given, be it a job, a car, my husband, my children, or a friendship, has always come at the right time without me having to strive for it. Each next step has always been laid out before me. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have to trust that God will continue to provide, and that I will not be left to fend for myself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we are wrestling with anxiety, it is often because there is an area of our lives where we are struggling to trust God. I think a great response to our anxieties and fears is to be more childlike before him. This means that we recognize that we are not providing for or sustaining ourselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we become too self-reliant, we often forget that it\u2019s not really our job to plan our life and provide for our needs. If you are relying on yourself, you might feel confident for a while. But when troubles come and you are reminded of your ultimate lack of control, fear may begin to creep in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Psalm talks about the depth of how much God knows us. He goes before us and comes after us. He knows where we are. He searches us and knows us inside and out. All our days are already ordained and planned by him. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows exactly who we are, where we are, and what we need.
