{"id":7075032,"date":"2026-10-04T01:10:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T01:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7075032"},"modified":"2026-10-04T01:10:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T01:10:16","slug":"diego-leon-features-for-man-united-as-michael-carrick-seeks-cover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7075032","title":{"rendered":"Diego Leon features for Man United as Michael Carrick seeks cover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"penci-post-entry-inner\">\n<p>\t\t\t<i class=\"penci-post-countview-number-check\" style=\"display:none\">1<\/i><\/p>\n<p>With injuries piling up, a forgotten player could step up for Manchester United after getting a rare chance under Michael Carrick.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils played a <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/09\/30\/michael-carrick-unconcerned-by-man-united-injury-crisis-317673\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">behind-closed-doors friendly<\/a> against fellow INEOS-owned outfit FC Lausanne-Sport on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The match was primarily organised to provide minutes to fringe players and recently recovered stars, allowing them to build match sharpness ahead of the Premier League\u2019s resumption.<\/p>\n<p>With many first-team players and academy stars away on international duty, Carrick was forced to select a makeshift team.<\/p>\n<h5>Baleba, De Ligt earn much-needed minutes<\/h5>\n<p>As expected, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2025\/10\/29\/every-african-player-to-play-for-manchester-united-300469\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Baleba<\/a> earned his first minutes as a United player after the Cameroonian <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/10\/02\/carlos-baleba-set-for-first-man-united-minutes-before-spurs-game-317769\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently recovered<\/a> from an ankle injury that had prevented him from taking part in pre-season and the matches so far.<\/p>\n<p>Matthijs de Ligt, who has been sidelined since last year, also <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/10\/02\/carlos-baleba-makes-manchester-united-debut-in-lausanne-victory-matthijs-de-ligt-also-started-317821\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made an appearance<\/a>, alongside Harry Maguire and <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/tag\/matheus-cunha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matheus Cunha<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Amad <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/10\/03\/amad-diallo-likely-to-miss-man-united-vs-tottenham-hotspur-clash-317875\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">did not make the cut<\/a>, hinting at the Ivorian\u2019s continued absence from the first team despite reports of an <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/09\/30\/amad-returns-to-man-united-training-as-injury-crisis-deepens-317654\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">imminent comeback<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/sport\/40570536\/man-utd-diego-leon-lausanne-friendly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sun<\/a>, \u201cCarlos Baleba made his maiden appearance ahead of an expected debut against Tottenham next week. Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire also appeared.\u201d<\/p>\n<h5>Diego Leon makes a rare start<\/h5>\n<p>Interestingly, Diego Leon, who was signed by INEOS last summer, finally made an appearance this season after failing to earn a single minute for United\u2019s Under-21s this term.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/09\/29\/another-setback-for-carrick-as-28-yo-african-star-is-hooked-off-with-injury-on-international-duty-317547\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Noussair Mazraoui<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/09\/27\/nightmare-for-carrick-as-united-star-hooked-off-after-just-30-mins-with-injury-on-international-duty-317410\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patrick Dorgu<\/a> both suffering injuries, and given Luke Shaw\u2019s poor injury record, the 20-time English league champions could need the 19-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>Under former boss Ruben Amorim, the Paraguayan had made the matchday squad four times, but he is yet to catch Carrick\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n<p>After a <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeoplesperson.com\/2026\/08\/26\/diego-leons-agent-sparks-doubts-over-man-united-stars-future-with-latest-remarks-314555\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">summer loan<\/a> failed to materialise, the Lausanne game could open up the possibility of more minutes for Adam Lawrence\u2019s Under-21s as well as the chance to train with the first team.<\/p>\n<h5>Carrick\u2019s son makes a cameo appearance<\/h5>\n<p>The aforementioned report also revealed that the current boss\u2019 son, Jayce Carrick, also got a runout against the Swiss side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMANCHESTER UNITED teen Diego Leon got his first minutes under Michael Carrick in their behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne.
