{"id":7074347,"date":"2026-10-03T13:11:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T13:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7074347"},"modified":"2026-10-03T13:11:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T13:11:22","slug":"faa-finds-boeing-737-max-software-issue-poses-no-safety-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7074347","title":{"rendered":"FAA finds Boeing 737 MAX software issue poses no safety risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a software problem affecting some Boeing 737 MAX aircraft does not pose a flight-safety risk, removing a hurdle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerotime.aero\/articles\/faa-delays-boeing-737-max-10-certification-software\" rel=\"nofollow\">that had delayed certification of the MAX 10<\/a>, the largest variant in the family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency\u2019s Corrective Action Review Board reached the conclusion on October 2, 2026, after examining the problem, which the FAA said can leave pilots without automated flight guidance during a specific go-around scenario.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FAA said it found that \u201cpilots retain full control of the aircraft and the indications to the flight crew are clear and unambiguous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerotime.aero\/articles\/software-issue-puts-boeing-max-7-and-max-10-programs-under-fresh-scrutiny\" rel=\"nofollow\">disclosed the issue on September 26, 2026<\/a>, saying it had notified operators and was developing a software update. The FAA said the problem could increase pilot workload during a go-around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem can occur during a go-around if pilots change the missed-approach route programmed into the flight management computer. The aircraft\u2019s vertical navigation mode, known as VNAV, can disengage, requiring the crew to intervene to maintain the correct altitude.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boeing said the autopilot continues working even if VNAV disengages. The FAA\u2019s concern was the additional workload for pilots during the maneuver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency would hold off certifying the MAX 10 while it assessed the software.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Ryanair are among the carriers awaiting the MAX 10. Lufthansa Group also exercised options for 20 of the aircraft in September 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the FAA\u2019s ruling, United and Southwest had asked Boeing to deliver new MAX aircraft with an earlier version of the software, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/airlines\/new-boeing-737-max-software-glitch-could-disrupt-navigation-feature-d537b8d8\" rel=\"nofollow\">according to The Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WestJet, which already operates aircraft with the affected software, said it had experienced no related in-service issues.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a software problem affecting some Boeing 737 MAX aircraft does not pose a flight-safety risk, removing a hurdle that had delayed certification of the MAX 10, the largest variant in the family.
