Meta is opening its Muse AI assistant to custom hardware, launching Muse Gadgets with open-source ESP32 firmware and a Linux SDK that lets developers build their own displays, controls, sensors and other peripherals.<\/p>\n

Nat Friedman announced Muse Gadgets on October 2, saying developers can grab an API token from gadgets.muse.ai<\/a> and point their preferred coding agent at the project\u2019s GitHub repository to start building.<\/p>\n

The official Muse Gadgets site says the software can run on off-the-shelf ESP32 boards or Linux hardware such as a Raspberry Pi. Developers could add screens, audio hardware, buttons, sensors or other components, giving Muse ways to interact beyond a phone or computer.<\/p>\n

The project expands what developers can do with Meta\u2019s Muse AI agent, which launched in Canada in September<\/a>. Meta also released Muse for Mac<\/a>, extending the assistant to desktop users.<\/p>\n

Meta has built its own example called Muse Home Link. The USB-C-powered device connects Muse to a home network, allowing it to communicate with compatible smart home gear such as TVs and speakers, along with other devices exposing a local web interface.<\/p>\n

Friedman said Meta manufactured 5,000 Home Links that should begin shipping within weeks. The devices are free for Muse subscribers while supplies last and can be claimed at gadgets.muse.ai<\/a>, with all of the code open source.<\/p>\n

Developers are already experimenting with the platform. Federico Viticci turned an Xteink eReader into an always-on Muse pocket display<\/a> that attaches to his phone using MagSafe. He said setup through the Muse app was smooth, with Muse able to load or automate content shown on the display.<\/p>\n

For users, Muse Gadgets could turn the AI assistant into something that lives on dedicated screens and smart home hardware rather than only inside apps. What comes next will largely depend on what developers build with the open-source tools and whether Meta expands Home Link availability beyond the U.S.<\/p>\n
