Strong broker producers, leadership and lines of business were all part of Duliban Insurance Brokers\u2019 recent strategic mergers, the company\u2019s president tells\u00a0Canadian Underwriter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in an interview.<\/p>\n

CU\u00a0<\/em>caught up with Jason Duliban after the Ontario brokerage\u2019s third deal of the year \u2014 an Aug. 26\u00a0merger<\/a>\u00a0with Stoney Creek-based Tripemco Insurance, which offers a variety of unique commercial group insurance programs.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

About two weeks before the deal, Duliban also\u00a0merged<\/a>\u00a0with Insuranceland Inc., a multi-generational family brokerage in Mississauga with a strategic focus on group insurance.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In March 2026, McDougall Insurance\u00a0acquired<\/a>\u00a0commercial brokerage Annex Insurance Group of Stoney Creek, boosting its commercial offerings in Ontario\u2019s Niagara and Hamilton areas. The transaction was done through Duliban Insurance, a division of McDougall Insurance, which itself is a division of Definity Financial Corporation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

CU<\/em>\u00a0talked to Duliban about M&A strategy, asking if Tripemco\u2019s unique offerings \u2014 which include mobile crane, massage and paralegal group programs, among others \u2014 played a role in the merger decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cTripemco Insurance and Insuranceland were both very strategic, where we could bring in quality leaders pushing our business forward every single day,\u201d he says. \u201cInsuranceland is a strategic personal lines group broker, who\u2019s one of the top group brokers in all of Ontario, with relationships of upwards to 25 different groups.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Tripemco is a very sophisticated commercial insurance brokerage with an extremely strong producer team and leadership,\u201d Duliban says. He adds the brokerage has multiple attractive commercial programs, along with a quality workforce and leadership team.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Duliban itself\u00a0made the decision to join McDougall<\/a>\u00a0in June 2025. \u201cI can candidly say it was the biggest decision our family\u2019s ever made, but it\u2019s also been the best decision that we\u2019ve ever made as well,\u201d Duliban says.<\/p>\n

Since joining McDougall, Duliban Insurance has nearly doubled in size, going from upwards of 100 employees to about 180. McDougall has also provided a lot of support and the tech platform to help growth, a point of attraction for brokers, Duliban says.<\/p>\n

Coast to coast presence<\/strong><\/h4>\n

When considering deals, Duliban notes his brokerage doesn\u2019t necessarily have a geographic focus. \u201cMcDougall Insurance has presence from coast to coast right across Canada and this isn\u2019t about Duliban Insurance looking at a unique acquisition structure\u2026,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means more meaningful relationships with our insurance companies. It means adding new carriers, adding better technology to the brokerage while still staying true to their values and the community at large.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Family values and community focus remain a key corporate strategy for both McDougall and its Duliban division. For Duliban, this means genuinely caring about the team, clients and communities. Even as the brokerage continues to grow, it must remain approachable and supportive as it continues to build trust and collaboration, Duliban says.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is not to be the biggest insurance broker, but it is to be the most respected insurance broker across Canada\u2026,\u201d he says. \u201cWe feel like we\u2019re at the starting blocks of our future, and we\u2019re really excited as to what\u2019s to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
