Hochmais is an information point at 1,850m and from the small car park you have a good view of\u00a0<br \/>the K\u00e4fer\u00a0and Ferleiten valleys\u00a0, as well as the three thousand metre peaks of the\u00a0Glockner group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took some cute family photos here with the help of our tripod and honestly, I think they turned out amazing! Can you imagine waking up here and watching the sunrise over the mountains? Or sipping on a glass of red wine while admiring the sunset from their terrace. I sure can!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think if I had to redo our Salzburg itinerary I would definitely opt to stay here for 1 night! The beautiful spot runs around a summit and offers every visitor immaculate views of the Alpine mountain slopes. While I do think that this small lake can be absolutely gorgeous , it looked very sad during our visit. Due to the abnormal high temperatures of the past summer the water level was super low so all that was left was a large puddle.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hochtor<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hochtor tunnel, a 311m long tunnel which is located at 2,504 m above sea level, connects the states of Salzburg and Carinthia in Austria. If you want to take photos here I recommend stopping at the parking drop offs before the tunnel (if you\u2019re coming from Salzburg). The views here are a lot more impressive compared to the other side.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stauseeblick<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most beautiful places along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is the Margaritzenstausee. From the <strong>Glocknerhaus K\u00e4rnten<\/strong> you\u2019ll be treated to an incredible view over this turquoise lake. And while you\u2019re at it you can also enjoy a delicious lunch here on their terrace! There\u2019s a small parking lot and from there simply follow the gravel road leading to the waterfall. But to reach the glacier you\u2019ll have to do some hiking anyway. We had to cut our hike short due to a sudden downpour. I was able to catch a ride with a lovely couple from the top of Franz-Josefs-H\u00f6he back down, grabbed our car and drove back up to pick up Christof and C\u00e9sar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Route<\/strong> \u2013 Glocknerhaus K\u00e4rnten \u2013 Margaritzenstausee \u2013 Sandersee \u2013 Franz-Josefs-H\u00f6he \u2013 Glocknerhaus K\u00e4rnten<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Level<\/strong> \u2013 Moderate. Towards the end of the trail there\u2019s a pretty steep part going up to Franz-Josefs-H\u00f6he. But if you\u2019re not feeling it anymore or it also starts raining heavily like with us you can take the funicular up. It doesn\u2019t come cheap though and will cost you \u20ac16.5 per person.
