What happens when the nice guy decides he’s tired of sitting on the sidelines? Chris Erasmus has an answer in his new single “Good Guy with a Bad Side”: add a little whiskey, a little rodeo swagger and just enough trouble to make things interesting.

That’s the premise behind “Good Guy with a Bad Side,” a lively new country single that takes aim at one of the genre’s favorite characters—the irresistible bad boy. But instead of delivering another story about a man leaving a trail of broken hearts, Erasmus turns the trope on its head. His character has the boots, the blue eyes and the confidence, but there’s one important difference: he actually knows how to treat someone.

The lyrics introduce a cowboy who can “throw a noose but won’t tie you down,” promising adventure without the emotional wreckage that usually comes with the bad-boy package. He can take your breath away, but he also knows when to give you room to breathe. It’s flirtatious, self-aware and intentionally fun.

That sense of humor is what makes the song stand out. Erasmus isn’t trying to convince listeners that he’s genuinely dangerous. He’s having fun with the idea of what women are supposedly looking for—and imagining what happens when the dependable guy decides to give them a little bit of what they think they want.

With its boot-stomping attitude and sing-along-ready chorus, “Good Guy with a Bad Side” feels tailor-made for crowded dance floors, country bars and anyone who has ever wondered why the nice guy never gets the girl. Erasmus’ answer is apparently simple: maybe the nice guy just needs to turn up the trouble—without turning off the good side.
