His pulping method won a grant last year from the EPA\u2019s People, Prosperity and the Planet Program.<\/p>\n<p>The school <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ucr.edu\/articles\/2020\/07\/24\/uc-riverside-research-team-fuels-hemp-revolution\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #4e89c4;\">announced<\/span><\/a> this week that the EPA has awarded Cai an additional $74,822 to study commercial applications for the process.<\/p>\n<p>Cai\u2019s \u201cone-pot\u201d method separates hemp stalks into:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pulped fiber.<\/li>\n<li>Lignin.<\/li>\n<li>Extracts.<\/li>\n<li>Sugars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The school now plans to work with hemp companies to commercialize the method, including creating large hempcrete blocks.
