Archie in Hell #1 Preview: Oni Press Reveals New Pyre Satanic Variant Cover

Archie Andrews is heading somewhere far darker than Riverdale in Archie in Hell #1, the new ongoing series from Oni Press and Archie Comics.

The upcoming horror title comes from multiple Eisner Award nominee Patrick Horvath and Russ Manning Award winner Tyler Crook, with colors by Francesco Segala. The first issue debuts in comic shops on November 4, 2026, and Oni Press has revealed a new “Pyre Satanic” variant cover illustrated by Chloe Brailsford.

The open-order variant has a Final Order Cut-Off date of September 28, 2026, giving readers and collectors a short window to reserve the cover before release.

Archie Andrews Goes to Hell

They say every small town has a secret. In Riverdale, that secret is much worse than anyone expected.

An ancient order of cultists has infiltrated the town and spent generations working toward one terrifying goal: using human sacrifice to bring a demon lord into the mortal plane. After a century of planning, the cult has finally found its final target.

That target is Archie Andrews.

The hometown football champion, longtime good guy, and all-around heart of Riverdale suddenly finds himself at the center of a secret ritual. But the cultists are not the only supernatural force in town. Actual witches walk Riverdale’s streets, and when cult and coven collide, the consequences become cosmic.

The Pyre Satanic Variant Cover

Oni Press has revealed the “Pyre Satanic” variant cover for Archie in Hell #1, illustrated by Chloe Brailsford, known for work including Lobo and The Deadman.

The cover joins two previously revealed “Pyre Satanic” covers by Brailsford, forming an unholy trinity alongside Archie #1 and Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1.

This special cover is an open-order variant, meaning retailers can order it without an incentive ratio. The FOC date for the Pyre Satanic variant is September 28, 2026, with the issue arriving in stores on November 4, 2026.

For collectors following Archie horror variants, this cover is one to watch.

A New Ongoing Horror Series

Archie in Hell #1 launches a new ongoing series from writer Patrick Horvath, best known for Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and artist Tyler Crook, known for Harrow County and Out of Alcatraz.

That creative team makes this release especially interesting. Horvath has built a reputation for mixing charming visuals with unsettling horror, while Crook brings a strong sense of atmosphere, character work, and supernatural dread.

Together, they are taking Archie into one of his darkest stories yet.

Riverdale’s Secret Cult

The story centers on an ancient cult known as the Order of Al’Darax, a group attempting to merge the mortal world with the realm of elder gods.

To complete the ritual, they need a bridge between worlds. Unfortunately for Archie, that bridge appears to be him.

The preview pages show Archie trying to go through an ordinary day in Riverdale before the supernatural pieces begin falling into place. Food drives, text messages, Sabrina’s magic, and strange cult activity all build toward something much more sinister.

By the time Archie is chosen as the channel for the old gods of Al’Darax, the series has fully turned Riverdale into a nightmare.

Why Archie in Hell #1 Matters

Archie in Hell #1 continues the publisher’s recent push into darker, stranger, and more horror-driven Archie stories.

The concept works because Archie is usually tied to comfort, nostalgia, humor, and small-town drama. Placing him against cultists, witches, ancient rituals, and cosmic horror creates an immediate contrast.

That clash between classic Archie innocence and full-scale supernatural horror gives the series a strong hook for longtime Archie readers, modern horror fans, and collectors watching Oni Press and Archie Comics’ horror line.
