{"id":7071291,"date":"2026-10-01T11:47:15","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T11:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7071291"},"modified":"2026-10-01T11:47:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T11:47:15","slug":"governor-authorizes-construction-of-new-mobile-river-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7071291","title":{"rendered":"Governor authorizes construction of new Mobile River Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday announced that she has formally authorized the start of construction on the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project, clearing the way for a groundbreaking ceremony this week.<\/p>\n<p>With a construction cost of $3.2 billion, the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway is the largest transportation infrastructure project in Alabama history. Ivey said the project is necessary to support Alabama\u2019s Gulf Coast region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt long last, we are officially moving from talking about the need for the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project to actually building it,\u201d Ivey said. \u201cThis project will transform travel through Baldwin and Mobile counties, strengthen a vital interstate corridor and benefit Alabama for generations to come. This is a win for the citizens in Baldwin and Mobile counties, a win for the state of Alabama and a win for the Gulf Coast region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To formally authorize construction, the Alabama Department of Transportation, or ALDOT, on behalf of the Alabama Toll Road, Bridge and Tunnel Authority, issued a notice to proceed to the Kiewit Massman Traylor design-build team on Friday, September 25.<\/p>\n<p>The action follows the successful closing of bond sales and federal financing earlier this month and marks the final procedural step before construction begins.<\/p>\n<p>United States Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will join Ivey and other dignitaries in Mobile on Friday, October 2, for a groundbreaking ceremony. The event is by invitation only because of space constraints.<\/p>\n<p>Additional information will be released in the coming days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement.
