Here\u2019s my pick of the best things to do in Malaga with kids.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-62287\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Alcazaba\"\/><strong>The Alcazaba<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Easily one of the highlights of a visit to Malaga with kids of any age, <a href=\"https:\/\/alcazabaygibralfaro.malaga.eu\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Alcazaba<\/a> is the city\u2019s fortress-palace, built in the 11th century, when the area was under Muslim rule.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1125\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-alcazaba-exterior-view.jpg\" alt=\"View along the path into the Alcazaba, now lined with trees and Malaga just visible beyond - There are some family activities on Sundays from 11am-2pm as well, although not during July and August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s around 15 minutes by car from central Malaga by taxi (Uber and Bolt both operate in the city), or around 40 minutes on public transport \u2013 take line 20 to its final stop of San Jose, then it\u2019s around a 15-minute walk.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_trips_from_Malaga_with_kids\"\/><strong>Day trips from Malaga with kids<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While there\u2019s plenty to tempt you to stay in Malaga itself, the city is also a great base to explore further around the Costa del Sol \u2013 there are even day trips as far as Gibraltar if you have the time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfe.com\/es\/en\/suburban\/suburban-malaga\/maps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> train which runs from the airport to Malaga city centre<\/a> also continues down the coast stopping at Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola among other resort towns if you fancy more beach or the chance to explore further afield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve got older kids who fancy a challenge, the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/en-gb\/caminito-del-rey-l89646\/?partner_id=8RDKZTA&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher&amp;cmp=MalagaWithKids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored nofollow\">Caminito del Rey<\/a> route \u2013 a cliffside boardwalk suspended 100m above a river gorge \u2013 is around an hour from Malaga, although it\u2019s strictly for age 8+.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Treasure_Cave_in_Rincon_de_la_Victoria\"\/><strong>Treasure Cave in Rinc\u00f3n de la Victoria<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An easy half-day trip from Malaga, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismoenrincon.es\/en\/caves\/treasure-cave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Treasure Cave<\/a> at Rincon de la Victoria is one of the world\u2019s most unusual caves \u2013 the only marine cave in Europe.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-rincon-victoria-Depositphotos639976546s.jpg\" alt=\"Rincon de la Victoria beach in Malaga, with a monument with ship anchors on the promenade in memory of its seafaring past - Bring plenty of sun cream, as there\u2019s not always as much shade as you\u2019d like. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can take the coast train to Torremolinos and then it\u2019s around a 15-minute walk, or there are buses which will also take you partway, but otherwise the easiest option is a taxi.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cordoba\"\/><strong>Cordoba<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you love Malaga\u2019s Islamic history, you shouldn\u2019t miss a chance to explore Cordoba as well \u2013 the former capital of the kingdom of Al-Andalus is home to two unique buildings, as well as the chance to wander its narrow historic streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highlight is a visit to the UNESCO-listed <a href=\"https:\/\/mezquita-catedraldecordoba.es\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mezquita<\/a>, the city\u2019s mosque-cathedral, so-called because the 8th-century mosque has a 16th-century Renaissance Catholic cathedral built directly into its heart.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-cordoba-mezquita-bridge-Depositphotos309386806s.jpg\" alt=\"View across the Roman bridge to the Mezquita cathedral-mosque in Cordoba - one of the best day trips from Malaga with kids\" class=\"wp-image-62794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-cordoba-mezquita-bridge-Depositphotos309386806s.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-cordoba-mezquita-bridge-Depositphotos309386806s-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-cordoba-mezquita-bridge-Depositphotos309386806s-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the city\u2019s former Jewish Quarter is also home to its ancient synagogue, the only one preserved in Andalusia after the Jewish population was expelled in 1492.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a bonus for fans of Game of Thrones, you can also visit the Roman Bridge, which doubled for Volantis in the TV show \u2013 albeit with a lot of CGI extras.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The train takes under an hour if you\u2019d like to visit independently, or there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/malaga-l402\/from-malaga-cordoba-day-trip-with-mosque-cathedral-tickets-t435973\/?partner_id=8RDKZTA&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher&amp;cmp=MalagaWithKids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sponsored nofollow\">tours to Cordoba<\/a> to see the city\u2019s highlights in a day \u2013 it\u2019s a two-hour drive each way, so better with older kids, but you get the bonus of a guide to introduce you to the history.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Getting_around_Malaga_with_kids\"\/><strong>Getting around Malaga with kids<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaga\u2019s city centre is compact, flat and easy to navigate on foot, so for most families a car isn\u2019t necessary if you\u2019re staying centrally \u2013 in fact, it can be more hassle than it\u2019s worth given the narrow streets and limited parking in the old town.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1125\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-fountain-palm-view.jpg\" alt=\"One of the ornate fountains near the park and waterfront in Malaga - my tips on the best things to do in Malaga with kids\" class=\"wp-image-62788\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-fountain-palm-view.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-fountain-palm-view-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mummytravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/spain-malaga-fountain-palm-view-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For trips further along the coast, such as Benalm\u00e1dena or Torremolinos, there\u2019s a good local train line (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfe.com\/es\/en\/suburban\/suburban-malaga\/maps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Cercan\u00edas<\/a>) running from Malaga\u2019s Centro-Alameda station (and Maria Zambrano station), which is easier than driving and finding parking at the other end.
