turns a visit to Pol\u00e8ne\u2019s Via Manzoni flagship into a closer look at the art and process of making.<\/p>\n

There is a difference between admiring a finished object and noticing what went into it. At Pol\u00e8ne\u2019s Milan flagship, the two experiences meet. Founded by three siblings in 2016, the French house designs its sculptural leather goods in Paris and entrusts their making to artisans in Ubrique, Spain. For its Milan store, the Copenhagen-based firm Norm Architects places those finished pieces among stone, suede, timber, and clay in various states of refinement. A rough edge or a visible grain becomes as compelling as the carefully finished pieces they display.<\/p>\n

From Via Manzoni\u2026<\/h4>\n

the storefront offers only a measured introduction. Exterior stone framing and textile awnings give way to a series of rooms that unfold in a line, one after another. This enfilade, inspired by traditional Milanese interiors, lets each material have its own space while maintaining a sense of continuity across the store. The eye travels freely ahead even as the details invite visitors to pause and take a closer look.<\/p>\n

From the quarry\u2026<\/h4>\n

to the workbench, stone sets the tone. Travertine pedestals retain the uneven character of blocks taken from the quarry, while worked limestone walls and honed floors show what a change in finish can bring to the same family of materials. Light settles differently on each surface, bringing the room\u2019s roughness and refinement into beautiful balance.<\/p>\n

Leather follows\u2026<\/h4>\n

bringing Pol\u00e8ne\u2019s own medium into the architecture. Off-cuts ranging in hue from nude to rich brown hang in niches, while stacks of suede form display pedestals for the collection. Underfoot, compressed leather gives the material a less expected role. These contrasts evoke the construction of Pol\u00e8ne\u2019s refined handbags, bringing their soft, sculptural forms into sharper focus and giving the room a character somewhere between a workshop and a gallery.<\/p>\n

retail area is wrapped in honey-toned oak, where logs with their bark intact and tops milled smooth sit alongside tables that recall stacks of lumber. Curved built-in display shelving frames the space, tempering the room\u2019s sharp textures and geometries with the measured ease of furniture.<\/p>\n

The visitor\u2019s path\u2026<\/h4>\n

culminates in a moody space of clay plaster, handmade brick, and rammed earth. It is the store\u2019s payment area, yet its earthen surfaces give this practical moment a sense of arrival. A glazed ceramic work by Clara Graziolino adds another expression of material transformed by hand. Tucked away from the main sequence, a textile-clad room offers a softer, lighter setting, with upholstered pedestals, pleated fabric, and pale linen curtains.<\/p>\n

What stays\u2026<\/h4>\n

with you is the attention given to each stage of a material\u2019s life. Each room makes space for irregularity, texture, and the trace of a maker\u2019s decisions. For a brand known for uniquely sculptural leather goods, it feels fitting that the setting invites visitors to consider how those forms come to be.<\/p>\n
