African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a haven for corruption.<\/p>\n

Naija News<\/a> reports that he made the claim in a video<\/a> making the rounds on social media.<\/p>\n

He argued that NELFUND and the Federal Government\u2019s student loan scheme under President Bola Tinubu were questionable.<\/p>\n

He questioned the \u20a620,000 monthly upkeep allowance provided to student beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

He also challenged the administration\u2019s description of the scheme as an initiative to pay students\u2019 school fees, arguing that \u20a620,000 could not reasonably cover annual tuition in government-owned tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cNELFUND is a haven of corruption. They are only giving students \u20a620,000 each<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhich government school takes \u20a620,000 as annual school fees?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is Tinubu claiming he\u2019s paying students\u2019 school fees when he\u2019s giving them only \u20a620,000?\u201d <\/em>Melaye asked.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Melaye<\/a>\u00a0has questioned why President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima are both absent from Nigeria at the same time.<\/p>\n

Naija News<\/a> reports that Melaye raised the issue in a post on his verified \ud835\udd4f handle on Monday, asking who was currently exercising presidential authority in the country.<\/p>\n

Tinubu is currently on an annual vacation scheduled to last three weeks. The President travelled first to London, United Kingdom, before proceeding to Paris, France. Shettima, meanwhile, travelled to New York, United States, on Sunday to represent the President at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly<\/p>\n

According to a statement by the Vice-President\u2019s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said Nigeria\u2019s participation at the global gathering would be guided by the country\u2019s national interest, commitment to multilateralism and Tinubu\u2019s advocacy for reforms of international institutions<\/p>\n

Reacting to the simultaneous trips, Melaye questioned the constitutional arrangement for exercising presidential powers while both the President and Vice-President are outside the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President and Vice President are out of the country. Power is not transmitted. \u201cWho is in charge of Nigeria as we speak? Tinubu travels out of Nigeria every month. Never for once has power been transmitted,\u201d<\/em> Melaye said.<\/p>\n
