I\u2019m comparing 3 brands of air-dry clay today! Which one did I like best?? I\u2019ll tell ya!<\/em><\/p>\n

Hello friends!<\/p>\n

Remember that time when I made air-dry clay? If not, you can read (and see) all about it right here: DIY Air Dry Clay (recipes and tips!)<\/a>
And maybe you remember I mentioned that I would compare store-bought brands next. Then didn\u2019t, haha!<\/p>\n

Well, I did finally.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sorry it took me so long, but here we are. I\u2019ve got it all done for ya! And my thoughts on all 3 (plus the DIY version).<\/p>\n

I also took a bunch of videos, so stay tuned for that. I didn\u2019t have time to edit and put that together, but once I do, I\u2019ll edit this post with it (and share it on my socials, too). And I\u2019ll let y\u2019all know in the newsletter so you can see it \u201cin action.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here are the 3 I chose to compare:<\/p>\n

\"Three<\/p>\n

Michael\u2019s craft smart, DAS, and Sculpey.<\/p>\n

First off, they were all somewhat different. Wow, not only that, but all three were different colors as well.
Also, the one most like my DIY homemade version was the Sculpey.
I\u2019m surprised because I guess I was thinking they\u2019d all be pretty much the same. Nope!<\/p>\n

You can see the color differences here. (They are not dry yet) Cream colored, gray, and white.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

SCULPEY<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Hands<\/p>\n

First up, Sculpey.<\/p>\n

Sculpey air-dry clay is very white and pliable. I\u2019d say it is the closest to my DIY air-dry clay recipe.<\/p>\n

I rolled out enough to make a small trinket dish and used the blue dish to cut out the shape.<\/p>\n

\"Hexagonal<\/p>\n

By the way, I love this silicone mat (linked above)! It\u2019s so great for crafting and keeping your work surface clean and safe.<\/p>\n

Then I laid a piece of plastic wrap in the dish for easy removal\u2026<\/p>\n

\"Hands<\/p>\n

\u2026and shaped the clay to the dish.<\/p>\n

\"Two<\/p>\n

\"Two<\/p>\n

Michaels\u2019 craft smart<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

This one was my least favorite. It wasn\u2019t as pliable or as user-friendly.<\/p>\n

I rolled it out\u2026<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

\u2026and repeated the same thing using the small dish to cut and shape.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

\"Two<\/p>\n

DAS<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Hands<\/p>\n

I liked DAS a lot. It is probably my favorite of the bunch.<\/p>\n

I did the same steps above but with this dish.<\/p>\n

Here they are all done and dry.<\/p>\n

\"Three<\/p>\n

The different colors are still apparent after drying.<\/p>\n

I made a few more dishs\/trinkets, etc., with both of the DAS and Sculpey clays. I didn\u2019t even realize until later that I didn\u2019t go to the Michael\u2019s brand. I just really didn\u2019t enjoy working with it.<\/p>\n

You might\u2019ve noticed the clay earrings in some of the photos; I\u2019ll share those in another post soon.<\/p>\n

SAND<\/span><\/p>\n

Once everything was dry, I lightly sanded all the edges.
As I\u2019ve worked with this a little more, I have decided it\u2019s much easier to make sure your edges are nice and smooth beforehand, if you can. I tried to smooth them a little, but it certainly wasn\u2019t enough. I\u2019ll be more mindful of that next time.<\/p>\n

Then I painted all of them with a white base coat.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

DECOUPAGE<\/span><\/p>\n

Next, I pulled out the fall napkins I purchased for this project. (linked above in the \u201cMaterials\u201d box)<\/p>\n

\"Four<\/p>\n

And got busy cutting and decoupaging all these pretties for fall using my Decoupage & Transfer Gel.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Once they were dry, I sanded the edges to remove excess napkin.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Looking at these pictures, I sort of like them simple, without the gold\/copper painted edges.<\/p>\n

\"Assorted<\/p>\n

But I did indeed paint all the edges.<\/p>\n

Maybe I should\u2019ve left some undone. Next time!! lol<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

GLAZE<\/span><\/p>\n

This stuff is SO shiny. Love it.<\/p>\n

All done and shiny! Hard to see that in the photos, though.<\/p>\n

So with all of that, air-dry clay is fun and easy<\/em>. However, I am thinking I really need to give oven-baked clay a go. I want a clay that is a bit more solid\/hard. These are hard, but not ceramic-hard, if you know what I mean.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be trying this one soon\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026hmm, now that I think about it, I might research two more so I can just start with a comparison to see what I think.
Yes, that\u2019s what I\u2019ll do.<\/p>\n

I got another set of napkins, Christmas\/Holiday style<\/a>, so I\u2019ll use those for that set. These would make great gifts!<\/p>\n
