The best places for donation are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodwill.org\/donate\/donate-stuff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Goodwill<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/satruck.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salvation Army<\/a>, other charity stores, or local shelters. However, not all clothing can be donated. If the clothes you?re getting rid of are torn, stained, stretched out of shape, or have moth holes, donation sites and homeless shelters won?t want them. Only clean, gently used clothes in good condition can be donated. So, what do you do with the rest? Even though you no longer need those old clothes, they may serve you or someone else well in another purpose. You can give new meaning to the term clothing swap by swapping out their use. Old clothes can actually have many new uses or become many new things! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you have clothes that can\u2019t be donated due to their condition, there are still several options for repurposing or recycling them:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-cleaning-rags\">1. Cleaning Rags<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old t-shirts make great cleaning and dusting rags. They?re perfect for polishing the car, dusting window blinds, or cleaning up greasy messes. If they?re not torn, old tees are also perfect to wear while you clean or craft. You won?t worry if you spill bleach or get paint on them.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-craft-projects\">2. Craft Projects<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Get creative. Old clothes make great raw material for craft projects.  Turn old socks into sock puppets or <a href=\"https:\/\/familyfocusblog.com\/family-memory-box-recycled-crafts-for-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">old denim into a clever memory box cover with a pocket<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"429\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/familyfocusblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/14-429x1024.jpg\" alt=\"family memory box\" class=\"wp-image-6293\"\/><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-hand-me-downs\">3. Hand-Me-Downs<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kids clothes are perfect hand-me-downs for younger siblings, cousins, or neighbors. If the second hand clothes are already stained your family member won?t need to worry about them getting dirty at the playground or while doing crafts.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-textile-recyclers\">4. Textile Recyclers<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do an online search for companies that recycle old clothes. You can ship your worn clothes off to find new life as something else. Some of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acteevism.com\/2019\/05\/29\/these-companies-actually-recycle-your-old-clothes-and-reward-you-for-it-too\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">these companies<\/a> will even send you shipping bags for your old clothing.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-compost\">5. Compost<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you?re a gardener, there?s good news. Natural fibers like cotton, silk, wool, hemp, bamboo, linen, and cashmere clothing are all compostable. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compostthis.co.uk\/old-clothes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">add it to your compost pile<\/a> and watch it break down over time and become nutrient-rich soil for your garden. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-donate-to-an-animal-shelter\">6. Donate to an Animal Shelter<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Animal shelters use old sweaters, clothes, towels, and blankets to care for the animals at the shelter. Redeem for a Discount<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It might surprise you to know that some stores have a collection bin, like Madewell and H&amp;M, and will recycle your old clothes for you! Some of them will even offer you an in-store discount on purchases you make the same day as your clothing donation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenorthface.com\/about-us\/responsibility\/product\/clothes-the-loop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North Face<\/a> lets you recycle your used apparel and footwear (any condition, any brand) at their stores and you will earn a $10 reward toward your next purchase of $100 or more! <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-9-turn-old-t-shirts-into-tote-bags\">9. Turn Old T-Shirts Into Tote Bags<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">T-shirts make one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly tote bags for shopping. An quick online search will help you find instructions for a <a href=\"https:\/\/mommypotamus.com\/no-sew-t-shirt-tote-bag-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no-sew 10-minute project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-10-make-patches\">10. Make Patches<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A great way to give second life to unwanted clothes is to use them to make stylish patches for jeans. A good pair of jeans with a hole can become a one-of-a-kind design by making a patch out of an old favorite shirt. Sew patches to cover stains and holes and make a beautiful piece of artwork you can wear.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-11-repurpose-old-tshirt-as-weed-barrier\">11. Repurpose Old TShirt As Weed Barrier<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old cotton t shirts with yellowed armpits can be repurposed in your garden beds where you can use them as water permeable weed barriers under you mulch. Gift Wrap<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another convenient way to use clothing items in poor condition is to cut out the flawed parts and use the rest to create cloth bags for gift wrap giving. Or if you don\u2019t sew, you can still cut the old fabric into squares and use as gift wrap cloth.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-15-make-accessories\">15.
