If you\u2019re reading this blog post, I\u2019m going to assume you\u2019re ambitious, but have you properly realised that not everyone in business is as ambitious as you? Because it\u2019s easy when you are ambitious to think everyone else is too. In fact, you might even have conversations with other business owners who describe themselves as an ambitious business owner, but you quickly realise their version of ambitious is very different to yours. If you want to fulfil your potential in your business you have to realise sooner rather than later that people get into business for all sorts of reasons and want to achieve all sorts of things through their business. Not everyone in business is as ambitious as you. Not everyone in business wants to achieve as much as you. And the sooner you realise that, the better, as I\u2019ll explain.<\/p>\n

But someone telling you that they are ambitious doesn\u2019t actually tell you what they are trying to achieve. The reality is people consider themselves to be ambitious if they want to achieve more than the \u201caverage\u201d. But average is relative. Someone can be the most ambitious person in their family or in their friendship group, but to you wouldn\u2019t count what they are trying to achieve as ambitious. So even if someone says they are an ambitious business owner, it doesn\u2019t mean automatically they are going to have the same level of ambition as you.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n This might sound obvious, but people get into business for many different reasons. Especially given that it is easier than ever before to start a business, more and more people are deciding to start a business and see what happens.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Someone might want:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n That\u2019s just some examples of the different things people can want from their business. All are legitimate goals. But as you can tell, they are very different. There is a big difference between someone who wants an extra income, someone who wants flexibility, someone who wants offices in multiple locations, someone who wants external investment and someone who wants to ultimately sell up.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The goal someone has for their business not only shows you how ambitious they are, but it is also impacts the game they are playing in business. And understanding that people are playing different games in business is so important.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n When you don\u2019t realise, or don\u2019t remember, that everyone isn\u2019t as ambitious as you, you can put yourself in some tricky, and costly, situations. I know this because I have been there.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n You go to a networking event and quickly realise everyone is pretty content with where they are. There is no drive, no hunger and no real conversation around growing or improving your business.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n You join a membership or mastermind all excited, but then discover that because the majority of the business owners aren\u2019t as ambitious as you, the conversations, and the teaching, aren\u2019t at a high enough level.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n You buy a ticket for a conference (before the agenda is released based purely on the brand) and find yourself listening to talks that are too beginner and no one else is aiming for the same level as you.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In some of these situations, you\u2019ve paid good money to be in those rooms, to have those conversations or to get that support. So it\u2019s costed you money. But on top of that something else happens, it can make you think \u2018Am I aiming too high?\u2019 and it can even make you start playing smaller.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I don\u2019t want that too happen to you. Even if I don\u2019t know you, I know that you aren\u2019t too ambitious. It\u2019s just that you are putting yourself in the wrong places and interactinvg with the wrong type of business owners. They aren\u2019t bad places. They aren\u2019t bad business places. They just aren\u2019t right for you.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n As discussed, being surrounded by the wrong business owners and going to the wrong events is costing you money and can be playing havoc with your mindset too. But in order to surround yourself with business owners who are ambitious as you you and put yourself in the right rooms you need to do know these two things.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n 1 \u2013 How ambitious are you really?<\/strong><\/p>\n What do you ultimately want to achieve in your business? If you didn\u2019t think someone would judge you for the answer how would you reply? Your answer might include the revenue\/profit you\u2019d like to make, the size of team you\u2019d like, the geographical spread etc. You don\u2019t have to tell anyone this (for now), but being honest with yourself so you can have that in the back of your mind is key.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n 2 \u2013 Where are you trying to get to next?<\/strong><\/p>\n It might be that you have big dreams for your business, but you aren\u2019t just one step away yet. For example, if ultimately you want an eight-figure business, but right now you don\u2019t even have a seven-figure business then it wouldn\u2019t make sense for the majority of your time to be spent surrounding yourself with people and consuming information for wannabe eight-figure businesses. You can indulge in a bit from time to time, but the main focus should be on where you are heading to next so get clear on that.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Once you\u2019ve got both of those things written down, then you can go start to actively look at how to surround yourself with the right people, put yourself in the right rooms and get the right support for your level of ambition.<\/p>\nNOT EVERYONE IN BUSINESS IS AS AMBITIOUS AS YOU ARE AND THE SOONER YOU REALISE THAT, THE BETTER<\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n
