{"id":7068528,"date":"2026-09-27T19:07:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-27T19:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/activist\/animal-justice-statement-on-the-shedds-preliminary-whale-necropsy-findings\/"},"modified":"2026-09-27T19:07:55","modified_gmt":"2026-09-27T19:07:55","slug":"animal-justice-statement-on-the-shedds-preliminary-whale-necropsy-findings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7068528","title":{"rendered":"Animal Justice Statement on the Shedd\u2019s Preliminary Whale Necropsy Findings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>TORONTO\u2014The preliminary findings of Shedd Aquarium\u2019s necropsies of Peekachu and Rain, two beluga whales who died at the facility after their transfer from Marineland in Niagara Falls, are deeply troubling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The discovery of foreign materials such as large rocks and paint flecks inside their stomachs, as well as evidence of underlying chronic health issues, only underscores Marineland\u2019s cruel neglect and the failure of government to act before a preventable crisis forced a rushed rescue that these medically fragile animals could not survive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Shedd\u2019s necropsy findings of the dead belugas confirm what everybody should have known\u2014that these whales were suffering from poor health after years of neglect at Marineland,\u201d said Camille Labchuk, lawyer and executive director of Animal Justice, Canada\u2019s leading animal law organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s shocking to learn that they apparently ingested objects like rocks, paint chips, and feathers. These sick belugas deserved far better than a rushed transfer to clear the way for Marineland\u2019s lucrative land deal to go through. Instead, there should have been efforts to improve the belugas\u2019 health enough so they could withstand the stress of transport and a new, unfamiliar environment,\u201d Ms. Labchuk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarineland\u2019s closure was a slow-moving train wreck that advocates and scientists saw coming from a hundred miles away.
