In 2015, he co-founded the quantitative hedge fund, High-Flyer, after completing graduation from Zhejiang University. Through High-Flyer, he used AI for trading strategies to predict market trends and help make investment decisions.<\/p><div class=\"g g-1\"><div class=\"g-single a-6\"><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"NiwxLDEsNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dontgetpushedaround.com\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"850\" height=\"500\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/AP-AffiliateAd-850x500-LegalShield-1.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, he started buying thousands of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/us-stock-market-nvidia-share-price-crashes-17-on-deepseek-ai-fear-loses-over-600-billion-market-cap-11738026260632.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nvidia<\/a>\u00a0graphics processors as an AI side project before the Joe Biden-led US government restricted US exports of AI chips to China, according to the Financial Times (FT). During this time, his acquaintances saw this AI side project as a quirky hobby without any goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we first met him, he was this very nerdy guy with a terrible hairstyle talking about building a 10,000-chip cluster to train his own models. We didn\u2019t take him seriously,\u201d one of Liang\u2019s business partners told FT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe couldn\u2019t articulate his vision other than saying: I want to build this, and it will be a game change. We thought this was only possible from giants like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/perplexity-ai-revises-merger-proposal-with-tiktok-offers-50-equity-to-us-government-report-11737941330238.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ByteDance<\/a>\u00a0and Alibaba,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-liang-wenfeng-s-ai-side-project\">Liang Wenfeng\u2019s AI side project<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/us-news\/vivek-ramaswamy-calls-chinas-deepseek-sputnik-moment-for-us-amid-market-crash-11738024775435.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DeepSeek<\/a>\u00a0was viewed as a side project initially, Liang was personally involved in the company and its research. He also plans to make DeepSeek a homegrown leader in AI by recruiting top talent from Chinese universities and paying them at a scale of local top social media platform TikTok\u2019s parent company ByteDance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeepSeek app is an AI-enabled platform launched recently for tasks such as natural language processing, data analysis, and various machine learning applications, similar to ChatGPT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-impact-of-deepseek-on-us-markets\">Impact of DeepSeek on US markets<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After its launch, the US market crashed, especially the Big Tech stocks such as Nvidia, which reported 17% fall, while the Nasdaq composite declined 5% on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nasdaq Composite closed down 3.1%, with a dip at one point wiping more than $1tn off the index from its closing value of $32.5tn last week, The Guardian reported.<\/p>\n\n            \n        <\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China\u2019s AI company, DeepSeek, has shaken the AI industry and the markets after it took over its rival ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app in the US.
