Some of the most personal stories are not always told directly. Sometimes they live in the small details, the things left unsaid and the emotions hiding underneath the words. Melbourne indie-pop singer-songwriter Ali Lamb explores that space on her new EP, Between the Lines, a six-track collection that brings together romance, anxiety, heartbreak and the process of finding yourself.

There is something fitting about using books as the central idea behind the project. Ali’s love of both music and literature comes through in the way the EP is structured, with each song feeling like another chapter in a larger story. Rather than treating the tracks as separate moments, Between the Lines allows them to sit together as parts of the same emotional journey.

“Strawberry Matcha” brings a softer and sweeter side to the project, while “Favourite Chapter” leans further into romance and storytelling. There is a different kind of vulnerability in “Finding My Breath,” where the emotional focus becomes more inward, before “Sour Grape” introduces a sharper edge.

That movement is one of the EP’s strengths. Between the Lines does not stay in one emotional place for too long. It moves between sweetness and uncertainty, affection and disappointment, giving the project a sense of progression that feels natural rather than forced.

Ali’s songwriting is at its best when the music feels personal without becoming overly complicated. The book-inspired concept gives her a simple but effective way to explore experiences that many listeners will recognise. Falling for someone, feeling overwhelmed, dealing with heartbreak and trying to understand yourself can all feel like chapters in a story that is still being written.

The EP also brings together previously released favourites with new material, giving returning listeners something familiar while opening another part of Ali’s creative world. A collaboration with her best friend adds another personal element to the project, making Between the Lines feel like more than just a collection of songs.

What makes the EP appealing is its honesty. Ali Lamb does not seem interested in pretending that every chapter has a perfect ending. Some moments are sweet, others are difficult, and some leave questions behind. That makes the journey feel human.

Between the Lines ultimately works as both a musical and emotional scrapbook. Each song offers another page, another feeling and another piece of Ali’s story. And just like a good book, some of the most meaningful moments are not necessarily found in the words themselves, but in everything happening between them.

About Ali Lamb

Melbourne-based indie pop/folk singer-songwriter Ali Lamb creates heartfelt, story-driven music inspired by love, mental health and the messy chapters in between.
