{"id":7066737,"date":"2026-09-25T15:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T15:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/join-childrens-mental-health-ontario-in-raising-awareness-for-childrens-mental-health-week-may-5-11-and-national-child-and-youth-mental-health-day-may-7\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T15:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T15:56:09","slug":"join-childrens-mental-health-ontario-in-raising-awareness-for-childrens-mental-health-week-may-5-11-and-national-child-and-youth-mental-health-day-may-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7066737","title":{"rendered":"Join Children\u2019s Mental Health Ontario in Raising Awareness for Children\u2019s Mental Health Week (May 5\u201311) and National Child and Youth Mental Health Day (May 7)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-304830\" src=\"https:\/\/cmho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Voices-Unheard-Stories-Told-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cmho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Voices-Unheard-Stories-Told-5.png 1920w, https:\/\/cmho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Voices-Unheard-Stories-Told-5-1280x333.png 1280w, https:\/\/cmho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Voices-Unheard-Stories-Told-5-980x255.png 980w, https:\/\/cmho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Voices-Unheard-Stories-Told-5-480x125.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) and (max-width: 1280px) 1280px, (min-width: 1281px) 1920px, 100vw\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This Children\u2019s Mental Health Week (CMHW), Children\u2019s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) and its members are recognizing the urgent need for inclusive, community-based mental health services for Ontario\u2019s young people.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place from May 5 to 11, 2025 and anchored by National Child and Youth Mental Health Day on May 7, this year\u2019s campaign is grounded in the theme: <strong><em>\u201cVoices Unheard, Stories Told: Centering the Diversity of Ontario\u2019s Infants, Children &amp; Youth.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This theme amplifies the lived experiences of young people and families from equity-deserving communities\u2014including Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, Francophone, Northern, and newcomer populations\u2014whose voices are too often excluded from mental health conversations and services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why This Matters: Equity Gaps in Mental Health Access <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black, Indigenous and racialized youth face barriers such as racism, discrimination, cultural insensitivity, and stigma that prevent access to mental health services and create negative experiences, with 21% of youth in CMHO\u2019s network reporting discrimination when accessing care (The New Mentality, 2022).<\/li>\n<li>Black children and youth wait longer and have difficulty accessing health services, in comparison to white children and youth (Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, 2025).<\/li>\n<li>42% of parents surveyed by CMHO identified the location of programs (i.e., programs located outside of their community) as a significant barrier to accessing care (Children\u2019s Mental Health Ontario, n.d.).<\/li>\n<li>6% of families and 61.5% of youth indicated that, despite expressing a preference for French language services when seeking child and youth mental health care in Ontario, they were unable to access such services in their native language at some stage during their mental health journey. (Lemay, Kelly, Gu\u00e9rin Marion &amp; Sundar, 2017).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThese inequities are not just data points\u2014they reflect the lived realities of kids and families in our communities,\u201d said Tatum Wilson, CEO, CMHO. \u201cWe need a mental health system that is responsive, representative, and rooted in equity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CMHO invites communities across Ontario to learn, share, and act.
