The Trinity is a foundational teaching of the Christian faith, yet it can sometimes be difficult to understand. Scripture clearly teaches that there is one God (Mark 12:29; Galatians 3:20; James 2:19). At the same time, the Bible reveals three distinct manifestations of God:\u00a0God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit<\/strong>. They share one essence as God, but each member of the Godhead has a distinct will and role.<\/p>\n Part of the difficulty is that the word Trinity<\/em> itself does not appear in the Bible. Scripture does not use a single term to describe the unity of the three members of the Godhead. Instead, Scripture reveals this truth through associations, actions, and descriptions.<\/p>\n In this blog, we will examine the three members of the Godhead, explore the biblical basis for the Trinity, and consider why this doctrine is important to Christians.<\/p>\n Scripture provides evidence for the Trinity in several important ways.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ASCRIBED AS GOD<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n BY TITLES SIGNIFYING DEITY<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n BY CHARACTER<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n BY ACTIONS ONLY GOD COULD DO <\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n IN THE LIFE OF CHRIST ON EARTH, EACH MEMBER OF THE GODHEAD:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n THEIR ASSOCIATION TOGETHER,<\/strong> AS DISTINCT PART OF THE GODHEAD<\/strong><\/p>\n The Bible references activities with each member of the godhead participating together such as:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Scripture teaches that\u00a0God is one<\/strong>, yet it also reveals three distinct members of the Godhead. Each is described with names and characteristics of deity, performs actions that belong to God, and works in association with the others to accomplish the Father\u2019s purposes.<\/p>\n Together, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit constitute what Scripture describes as the\u00a0\u201cGodhead\u201d<\/strong>,<\/strong> forming the biblical basis for the doctrine we know as the Trinity. This doctrine was accepted by the ecclesiastical fathers from the earliest period when the church could legally organize in AD 313.<\/p>\n Thank you for joining me for this discussion.
