God created emotions. The Psalms are filled with David expressing confusion, grief, frustration, and even asking God why He seemed far away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet feelings are not the ultimate authority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scripture is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hebrews 13:5 says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI will never leave you nor forsake you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psalm 34:18 says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James 4:8 says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDraw near to God, and he will draw near to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the tension. We may feel abandoned, but God\u2019s promises tell a different story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith often means trusting God\u2019s character before our emotions catch up.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Can Go Through the Motions and Miss the Heart<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the problem isn\u2019t that we\u2019ve stopped doing spiritual things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s that we\u2019ve started doing them mechanically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus confronted the Pharisees about this very issue:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.\u201d (Matthew 15:8)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pharisees prayed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They fasted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They knew Scripture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They attended religious gatherings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet their hearts were far from God.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same thing can happen to us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can have perfect church attendance and still have a distant heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can know theology and still neglect intimacy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can perform religious activities without genuinely pursuing Christ.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God has never been after mere performance. He wants our hearts.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sometimes Our Expectations Create the Distance<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another reason God can feel distant is because we expect Him to work in ways He never promised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want immediate answers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want clear direction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want dramatic spiritual experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want every prayer answered exactly how we imagined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When those expectations aren\u2019t met, disappointment can quietly grow into distance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is that God isn\u2019t obligated to meet our expectations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s committed to fulfilling His purposes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many times we want God to remove the struggle, while God wants to use the struggle to shape us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want clarity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God wants trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want the full roadmap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God often gives us the next step.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep Doing the Right Things Even When You Don\u2019t Feel It<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the worst things we can do during a spiritually dry season is stop doing the very things that help us stay connected to God.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine someone saying:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t feel healthy, so I\u2019m going to stop exercising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t feel financially stable, so I\u2019m going to stop going to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That doesn\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet many Christians do something similar spiritually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop praying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop reading Scripture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop attending church.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop worshiping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop pursuing Christian community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reality is that spiritual disciplines often produce fruit long before they produce feelings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growth is usually gradual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as consistent exercise changes the body over time, consistent time with God changes the heart over time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep showing up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep praying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep reading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep worshiping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep trusting.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comparison Can Make You Feel Farther From God<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One final trap is comparison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s easy to look at another believer and assume they\u2019re closer to God than you are.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe they seem more gifted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe their prayers sound deeper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe their life appears more spiritually impressive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But comparison is dangerous because you\u2019re comparing your private struggles to someone else\u2019s public image.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God isn\u2019t calling you to have someone else\u2019s relationship with Him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s calling you to cultivate your own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your spiritual journey will not look exactly like anyone else\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s okay.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">God Hasn\u2019t Left You<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re walking through a season where God feels distant, remember this:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your feelings are real, but they are not always telling you the truth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God has not abandoned you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has not forgotten you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has not stopped working.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has not changed His promises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is continue obeying God when you don\u2019t feel like it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep showing up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep seeking Him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep trusting His Word more than your emotions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day you\u2019ll look back and realize that the God who felt distant was actually walking beside you the entire time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And perhaps that\u2019s the lesson many of us need to learn:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s presence is not determined by our feelings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s secured by His promises.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"wordads-inline-marker\"
