So where is the catch? It sits in exactly the two fields exhibitors need most: names and current email addresses.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OCR still misreads unusual names, so a misspelled contact bounces on the first send<\/li>\n<li>Enrichment guesses an email from a domain, which risks the exhibitor\u2019s sender reputation<\/li>\n<li>The data is pulled without clear attendee consent, so there is no compliance story<\/li>\n<li>Older hardware alternatives lock leads away until the end of the show, delaying follow-up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consent gap is the part that should worry organizers most. When an attendee gets spammed at a personal address after your show, the complaint lands on your desk, not the app vendor\u2019s. That is not a hypothetical risk. In December 2024, France\u2019s data protection regulator, the CNIL, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnil.fr\/en\/data-scraping-kaspr-fined-eu240000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fined the data enrichment vendor Kaspr 240,000 euros<\/a> for scraping contact details without a valid legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So both sides lose. The exhibitor saves a few dollars for data that may not be reachable, and you lose the revenue and the audit trail. As the webinar put it, stop trying to sell the scan.
