The <strong>E-Commerce Rules<\/strong> introduce strict guidelines that will fundamentally change how online marketplaces operate in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new framework, platforms will no longer be allowed to display fake discounts. The <strong>\u201cprior price\u201d<\/strong> must reflect the lowest price charged in the last <strong>30 days<\/strong> and must be clearly shown to customers. This measure is designed to prevent deceptive pricing tactics that create false impressions of savings. Additionally, search results on e-commerce platforms cannot be manipulated to mislead consumers, and all sponsored or paid listings must be clearly labeled to distinguish them from organic results.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations specifically target <strong>dark patterns<\/strong>, which are design tricks used to manipulate user behavior. These include fake urgency messages, hidden costs, and forced subscriptions. E-commerce platforms will be required to conduct yearly self-audits and display compliance certificates demonstrating their adherence to these standards. This represents one of the most significant accountability measures introduced for the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Transparency requirements have been strengthened across multiple areas. Sellers must disclose their complete identity, return policies, and warranty information. For <strong>imported products<\/strong>, the country of origin and importer details must be clearly displayed. These provisions ensure that consumers have access to essential information before making purchase decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer data protection has been given significant emphasis in the new rules. Platforms cannot use customer data without obtaining clear and explicit consent. When consumers file grievances, they must be provided with a copy of their complaint, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up.
