One of the best things to do in Amsterdam is to sit by the water and watch the boats passing by. It\u2019s so romantic and relaxing, and I never get enough of it. Amsterdam is a city built around canals, so there is a multitude of places where you can sit by the water, including many bars and restaurants with a water view. In this article, however, I\u2019m going to talk about those places where you can sit by the water without a bill included, at any time of the day and sometimes by yourself if you\u2019re lucky.<\/p>\n
The canals and waterways are more than just part of Amsterdam\u2019s postcard<\/a> image. They are also public spaces where people come to sit, relax<\/a>, swim and watch the world go by. These spots where you can sit by the water are varied and are being used for different purposes: some people stop by for a lunch with a view (something they bought at the nearby shops), others relax for hours with a book, while others come for a chat with friends, to sunbathe or swim in the summer. There are some who organise a full stylish picnic, like one of my friends does, with proper prosecco glasses and plates. But that\u2019s not very common, as most Amsterdammers are practical and don\u2019t bother with too many preparations.<\/p>\n This list is definitely not exhaustive; that would be a very long list. I\u2019m sure that if you ask any local<\/a>, they will give you another spot for sure.
