A visit to breathtaking Iguazu Falls is one of South America\u2019s top attractions. In fact, Iguazu is one of world\u2019s top three waterfalls, along with Niagara Falls (Canada\/USA), and Victoria Falls (Zambia\/Zimbabwe).<\/p>\n

Located on the border of Brazil & Argentina in the Atlantic Rain Forest, Iguazu Falls is famous for its sheer scale. There are nearly 275 individual falls stretching for almost 2 miles around a wide horseshoe canyon. Its largest waterfall \u2013 the massive Devil\u2019s Throat \u2013 is about 260-270 feet tall.<\/p>\n

I visited Iguazu Falls in March 2026 at the end of a South America tour with Overseas Adventure Travel<\/a> (OAT). The main trip was to Buenos Aires & Patagonia (Chile & Argentina). OAT offered a 3-day post-trip to Iguazu Falls, so I jumped at the chance to finally visit this bucket list sight!<\/p>\n

Our group of 13 flew from Buenos Aires to Iguazu International Airport on the Argentine side \u2013 and stayed in the nearby town of Puerto Iguazu for 3 nights. As most people do, we visited both sides of Iguazu Falls \u2013 on separate days \u2013 to maximize the experience.<\/p>\n

In this blog post, I share my wonderful Iguazu Falls experience through narrative and many photos (and some video). Words alone can\u2019t do justice to this incredible wonder of nature! My group & I really enjoyed everything we did \u2013 so I highly recommend them for your future visit.<\/p>\n

More About Iguazu Falls<\/h2>\n

Unlike Niagara or Victoria Falls, which are essentially one or two massive drops, Iguaz\u00fa isn\u2019t a single waterfall \u2013 it\u2019s a system of roughly 275 individual falls & cascades spread across nearly 1.7 miles (2.7 km) of the Iguaz\u00fa River.<\/p>\n

To that point, Iguazu Falls stretches so wide that you can\u2019t take it all in from one viewpoint; it feels more like an entire waterfall-filled canyon than a single feature.<\/p>\n

That is why you really want to visit both the Brazil & Argentine sides \u2013 as they offer very different, yet equally spectacular views of the falls.<\/p>\n

In 1934, Argentina created Iguaz\u00fa National Park and five years later, Brazil established Igua\u00e7u National Park. Both were major steps toward protecting these amazing waterfalls and the surrounding Atlantic Rain Forest \u2013 a subtropical forest rich in flora and fauna.<\/p>\n

In 1984, international recognition followed when UNESCO added Argentina\u2019s Iguaz\u00fa National Park to the World Heritage List. And in 1986, Brazil\u2019s Igua\u00e7u National Park was added.<\/p>\n

In addition, Iguazu Falls was selected in 2011 as one of the\u00a0\u201cNew7Wonders of Nature!<\/em>\u201d This accolade further strengthened its place among the world\u2019s most internationally recognized natural attractions.<\/p>\n

Arrival in Puerto Iguazu \/ Our Riverside Hotel<\/h2>\n

We stayed in the Argentine town of Puerto Iguazu at the nice (3-4 star) Am\u00e9rian Portal del Iguaz\u00fa<\/a> hotel, which has 117 rooms & a lovely pool area. It\u2019s located near the confluence of the two rivers \u2013 Rio Iguazu & Rio Parana \u2013 that divide Argentina, Brazil & Paraguay (making a Triple Border).<\/p>\n
