It will now need to make sure that its words are translated into action.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWith this vital industry needing support to further boost its economic contribution, the unseemly blame game between the Government and the British Tourism Authority over the withdrawal of funding from the Business Events Growth Programme is an unhelpful distraction.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee\u2019s report,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/email.cisionone.cision.com\/c\/eJxMjr2ypCAQRp8Gs57iT5HA4Ca-xi1-GqWugAs4s7VPv-XsBpOer_vU8QufnaQDLkxpSqeRMTnsyzjjHKyQklkmreY-oOJGauHD7LR2Q1wmY7nQzk6z9uGbsaAcZUpxi0TSFj3-xF-QTDywNhiV1nJU0lrw8o_bHvcwHMve-9mI-CJ8JXx1JaXYO2J7nKYe0STM_XH9fE6Er0LNN7mOflWEhD4aMNlDO0vt8HmZ8dUIXzmT06zelhywYnYI-HuPNvZY8vu3V-MRgokVGrpeKrhyHR5SbA3K1aFk2Gp59R1ese832coTa74Twbi3KJ0NXqZmwtfhX1bFA01DiH55g-__gIgvMY4zVUNdvMlE0rNi63FDfGLubbuix4craWi9IqZbQCllmo4KmJ80SMkEmElwEEEGMXH03NPhufC_AQAA__8zQpl8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which was published in July<\/a>, warned that the UK\u2019s multi-billion-pound conference, exhibition and trade fair sector risked falling behind overseas competitors and missing out on valuable economic opportunities without a new focus and commitment to funding from government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the committee\u2019s recommendations were for the government to recognise business events as a distinct, trade-driven sector separate from major events and tourism policy and for the establishment of a new long-term national strategy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The response reveals that business events will be included as part of a cross-sectoral strategy on major events by spring next year, with the government \u2018acknowledging their own unique contribution to the events landscape\u2019. It also says that the forthcoming Visitor Economy Growth Strategy will set out an ambition and commitment to exploring a more cohesive cross-government approach to supporting business events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The response also says that officials are exploring ways to coordinate government attendance at business events and formalise the process of securing early advocacy from ministers.
