\ngained an insider\u2019s perspective on an industry often only seen from the outside.<\/p>\nLeah Oliver (Customer Experience) discovered a unique aspect
\nof NYCM\u2019s process: \u201cI was surprised to learn that you need to go through an
\nagent.\u201d<\/i> Others, like Tyler Barth (Brand Creative), were struck by the level
\nof coordination across teams: \u201cI didn\u2019t realize how many different teams all
\nhave to collaborate to keep things running smoothly and build trust with
\ncustomers.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
For Maeve Robinson (Brand Public Relations), the learning
\ncurve came in the form of language: \u201cThere are so many words that us young
\nadults don\u2019t think about on a day-to-day basis\u2026 I had never heard of some of
\nthese before.\u201d<\/i> And in Customer Service, Gabrielle De Silva found herself
\nfascinated by the \u201camount of data science behind the scenes.\u201d <\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nPersonal Growth and Confidence<\/b><\/h4>\n
Stepping into real-world projects pushed interns out of
\ntheir comfort zones. Several shared how they became more confident speaking
\nwith customers, more at ease in front of a camera, or more social in
\nprofessional settings.<\/p>\n
Jake Brady (Property Claims) found his interactions shaped
\nhis confidence: \u201cI found myself more social than I thought I would be. Everyone
\nwas very open and friendly.\u201d <\/p>\n
For Tyler, video work offered a new challenge. \u201cBeing
\npart of video projects\u2026 stepping in front of the camera pushed me out of my
\ncomfort zone in a good way, and I gained a lot of confidence.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Some discovered new strengths in adaptability and
\ncommunication. Kristopher Convis (Customer Service) reflected: \u201cThis
\nexperience has made me open up, which is especially important with broadcasting<\/i>
\nand a degree in Meteorology.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\nMaeve shared that she learned the importance of pacing
\nherself: \u201cI had to scale things back and really think about what I wanted to
\nput out there\u2026 and why we were putting it out.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\nNYCM\u2019s Role in Their Journey<\/b><\/h4>\n
The supportive and collaborative environment at NYCM played
\na central role in their positive experience. Interns described colleagues as
\nopen, approachable, and eager to share knowledge. Real responsibilities, whether
\ndeveloping social media campaigns or collecting and organizing data, gave them
\nthe opportunity to apply skills from the classroom and develop new ones
\nessential for their future careers.<\/p>\n
Leah shared that her time in her role developed her phone
\nskills, a big leap for someone who found it nerve-wracking at first. Gabrielle
\nsaid she learned the value of organization: \u201cI\u2019m a disorganized person, but
\nit\u2019s important to make sure data is in the right place\u2026 and if you\u2019re not sure
\nof something, just ask.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
According to Kerisha Puerile, NYCM Recruiter and
\nco-coordinator of the Intern program<\/a>, NYCM Insurance is great place for interns
\nto immerse themselves in real-world experiences that they can bring back to the
\ncollege classroom or in their careers, regardless of future dreams and plans.<\/p>\nWorking hand in hand with their teams, collaborating,
\nparticipating in meetings, and networking with multiple divisions and other
\ninterns through our events helps build their business acumen and strengthens
\nthe social skills they might not develop otherwise,\u201d Puerile said. \u201cIt has been
\na pleasure working with interns over the years and seeing the growth they have
\neach year they return.\u201d<\/p>\n
Looking Ahead<\/h4>\n
As these interns head back to campuses from SUNY Oneonta to
\nthe Fashion Institute of Technology, they carry with them not just professional
\nskills, but also meaningful lessons in teamwork, adaptability, and
\ncommunication. Their time at NYCM has prepared them to take the next steps
\ntoward careers in fields as diverse as film, public relations, finance,
\nsoftware development, meteorology, and media design.<\/p>\n
