‘I think it’s totally appropriate,’ says JD Vance on Trump’s White House media bans<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

JD Vance defended Trump\u2019s ban of three news outlets from the White House while speaking to reporters en route to a campaign event in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not banning media outlets,\u201d Vance said on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. (Trump, in his social media post announcing the move, referred to his actions as a ban.)<\/p>\n

Vance continued: \u201cWhat he\u2019s doing is saying we\u2019re not going to give you special access to the White House if you engage in what is effectively propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

He criticized the outlets for coverage that he said was overly negative of the Trump administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not representative of the American people. It\u2019s not representative of public opinion. So if you\u2019re going to engage in what is effectively far left propaganda, why would a Republican White House give you special access?\u201d<\/p>\n

But, he said, Trump\u2019s actions didn\u2019t violate the outlets\u2019 rights, because \u201cthey can still report on the Trump White House, they can still get the public reports\u201d and \u201cthey can still, of course, talk to people in the administration and outside the administration\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about basic fairness. They can still report. They still have access to free speech. They\u2019re just not going to get an office in the White House anymore. And I think it\u2019s totally appropriate, unless, of course, they start to behave like real news organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n
