Can the child&#8217;s NRIC\/birth certificate be linked to PayNow?<\/strong><br \/><strong>2. How much interest does the account pay?<\/strong><br \/><strong>3. Once registered, the child can receive money from<br \/>\n  <strong>parents, companies and Government agencies<\/strong> through PayNow.<br \/>\n  (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbs.com.sg\/personal\/deposits\/pay-with-ease\/paynow?linkId=100000008557920&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"PayNow with DBS - Learn how to use easily! | DBS Singapore\">DBS Singapore<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>The account also becomes more useful as the child grows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATM card from 12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Visa Debit Card from 16<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>\ud83c\udfc6 Best overall if PayNow is the main reason for opening the<br \/>\n    account.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\n  OCBC is particularly interesting because it allows a child&#8217;s<br \/>\n  <strong>Birth Certificate<\/strong> to be registered to a joint account when<br \/>\n  the child is <strong>under 16<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>The money goes directly into the joint account.<\/p>\n<p>\n  This works with accounts such as <strong>Mighty Savers<\/strong> and the<br \/>\n  relevant joint child accounts.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Mighty Savers<\/h3>\n<p>This is the better choice if the objective is saving.<\/p>\n<p>\n  It can pay <strong>up to 0.30% p.a.<\/strong>, depending on the conditions.\n<\/p>\n<h3>MyOwn<\/h3>\n<p>\n  This is the better choice if the child is old enough to start managing money.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Children aged <strong>7\u201315<\/strong> get their own digital banking experience<br \/>\n  and debit card, while parents retain oversight.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Mighty Savers for saving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MyOwn for teaching your child to manage money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\n  UOB also provides a specific method for parents to register their child&#8217;s<br \/>\n  <strong>Birth Certificate<\/strong> for PayNow.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  UOB says parents with a joint savings account or Child Savings Account can<br \/>\n  register the child&#8217;s PayNow through SMS, and it<br \/>\n  <strong>strongly recommends linking the child&#8217;s PayNow to the designated CSA to<br \/>\n    facilitate Government payouts and education awards<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uobgroup.com.sg\/personal\/digital-banking\/paynow.page?adobe_mc=MCMID%3D73000026024084064855996130797726807793%7CMCORGID%3D116168F454E6DA2A0A4C98A6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1775088000&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"PayNow | UOB Singapore\">UOB Group<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Junior Savers account is available to children<br \/>\n  <strong>16 and below<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>The downside is the interest rate:<\/p>\n<p><strong>0.05% p.a.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n  There is also an option for an<br \/>\n  <strong>ATM\/debit facility from age 15<\/strong>, depending on the account<br \/>\n  arrangement.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>A very solid choice if Government payouts and PayNow are more important<br \/>\n    than interest.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\n  Maybank Youngstarz is one of the more interesting options for parents who want<br \/>\n  <strong>PayNow plus better savings interest<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The account is available to children <strong>16 and below<\/strong> and<br \/>\n  requires only <strong>$10 to open<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maybank2u.com.sg\/en\/personal\/accounts\/savings\/Youngstarz-Account.page?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"Maybank Youngstarz Savings Account\">Maybank Singapore<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  More importantly, Maybank specifically provides instructions for parents to<br \/>\n  register the child&#8217;s <strong>NRIC\/birth certificate<\/strong> for PayNow.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The bank says this can be used to receive money from<br \/>\n  <strong>parents, Government agencies and companies<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maybank2u.com.sg\/en\/personal\/payments\/local\/fund-transfers\/paynow.page?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"PayNow | Maybank PayNow Services\">Maybank Singapore<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>Current interest tiers are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>0.05%<\/strong> on the first $20,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>0.30%<\/strong> on the next $30,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>0.90%<\/strong> above $50,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>Best choice if you want PayNow and want the child&#8217;s savings to earn more<br \/>\n    interest.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Standard Chartered First$aver is actually a very good children&#8217;s account.<\/p>\n<p>\n  It is a joint account between the parent and child, with the child under 18.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  From <strong>age 13<\/strong>, the child can have simplified mobile banking and<br \/>\n  request a debit card. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sc.com\/sg\/terms-and-conditions\/product-terms\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"Product Terms - Standard Chartered Singapore\">Standard Chartered Bank<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>However, there is an important limitation for our comparison:<\/p>\n<h3>PayNow registration for the child starts at 15.<\/h3>\n<p>\n  That means a 10-year-old or 12-year-old cannot use First$aver for the child&#8217;s<br \/>\n  PayNow ID under the MOE rules.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>Good for teenagers aged 15\u201316, but not suitable if you need PayNow for a<br \/>\n    younger child.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>HSBC is another option for older children.<\/p>\n<p>\n  Its relevant joint-account arrangements allow children from<br \/>\n  <strong>12 years old<\/strong>, and HSBC supports children&#8217;s PayNow<br \/>\n  registrations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  That makes it an option for children aged <strong>12\u201316<\/strong>, but not<br \/>\n  younger children.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The downside is that the standard savings interest is relatively low compared<br \/>\n  with some competitors.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Our verdict:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>Worth considering if your family already banks with HSBC, but not our first<br \/>\n    choice purely for the SG Child Support Package.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>This is where our original comparison needs correcting.<\/p>\n<h3>CIMB Junior Saver<\/h3>\n<p>\n  CIMB has an attractive children&#8217;s savings account and a comparatively high<br \/>\n  interest rate.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But we could not verify the required<br \/>\n  <strong>child PayNow ID registration<\/strong> for the Junior Saver account.\n<\/p>\n<p>For a normal children&#8217;s savings comparison, CIMB remains interesting.<\/p>\n<p>\n  For an article specifically about the<br \/>\n  <strong>SG Child Support Package<\/strong>, we would leave it out.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Citibank<\/h3>\n<p>\n  Citibank supports PayNow, but the MOE information places the relevant PayNow<br \/>\n  registration age at <strong>16<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  That makes it less useful for parents with younger children, which is why we<br \/>\n  have left it out of the main shortlist.\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\n  If we put <strong>PayNow first<\/strong>, followed by interest and then debit<br \/>\n  cards, our ranking looks like interest.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Our No. 1 choice: DBS\/POSB<\/h3>\n<p>The biggest reason is simple:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PayNow has no minimum age requirement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That makes it particularly useful for families with younger children.<\/p>\n<h3>If interest matters more:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Maybank Youngstarz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It combines child PayNow registration with a much better savings rate.<\/p>\n<h3>If your child is ready for their own spending account:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>OCBC MyOwn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n  The debit card starts from just <strong>7 years old<\/strong>, while parents<br \/>\n  retain oversight.\n<\/p>\n<h3>If your child is 15 or 16:<\/h3>\n<p>\n  <strong>Standard Chartered First$aver<\/strong> becomes much more attractive<br \/>\n  because the child can have a debit card from 13 and PayNow registration is<br \/>\n  available from 15.\n<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\n  The <strong>SG Child Support Package<\/strong> is not the same thing as the<br \/>\n  CDA.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Government says the child&#8217;s PayNow ID should be linked to an eligible bank<br \/>\n  account, and parents should<br \/>\n  <strong>not link the child&#8217;s PayNow ID to the CDA<\/strong> for this purpose.<br \/>\n  (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.life.gov.sg\/services-tools\/baby-bonus\/account-services?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" title=\"Account services | Apply for Baby Bonus \u2013 LifeSG \u2013 Services\">LifeSG<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  For younger children, some banks also have a<br \/>\n  <strong>Child Savings Account (CSA)<\/strong> connected to the Baby Bonus<br \/>\n  system. For example, OCBC says its CSA automatically links PayNow to the<br \/>\n  child&#8217;s birth certificate to receive future Government payouts.\n<\/p>\n<p>So parents may end up with:<\/p>\n<p><strong>CDA \u2192 Government matching + approved child expenses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>Child&#8217;s PayNow-linked account \u2192 Government payouts + savings + other<br \/>\n    money<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>They serve different purposes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Don&#8217;t start with the interest rate.
