Mohan Lamsal, managing director of the Nepalese expedition operator Makalu Adventure, <a href=\"https:\/\/everestchronicle.com\/two-climbers-killed-by-avalanche-at-camp-iii-on-manaslu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Nepalese media<\/a> that contact with the two climbers at Camp 3, at an altitude of about 6,800 meters, was lost today. Four Sherpas were subsequently sent out to search for them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Lamsal, their tent was struck by an avalanche and buried more than two meters deep under the snow. The victims were a Nepalese mountain guide from the region around the eight-thousander Makalu and his client, a native of India who lived in Germany and worked as an IT specialist.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Six members of the team had turned back earlier<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-medium\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen\" class=\"wp-image-53741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Butterlampen_Gebetsmuehlen.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">R.I.P.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Lamsal, they were part of an eight-member group from the operator that had set out toward the summit. Six team members turned back after heavy snowfall at Camp 2; only the two continued their ascent to Camp 3 on Saturday evening\u2014with the goal of making an early summit push.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost all other teams had abandoned their summit attempts due to the snowfall and the resulting increased avalanche danger and had returned to base camp.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Already four deaths this Manaslu season<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are the third and fourth fatalities of this fall season on Manaslu. <a href=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/en\/rope-fixing-team-reaches-the-summit-of-the-eight-thousander-manaslu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Previously<\/a>, a climber from Singapore (near Camp 2) and a Nepalese porter (at base camp) had lost their lives, apparently as a result of high altitude sickness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tourismdepartment.gov.np\/content\/186\/royalty-report---countrywise-expedition-permitted-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As of 18 September,<\/a> the Nepalese Department of Tourism has issued 493 climbing permits for this fall for the 8,163-meter-high mountain in the western part of the country \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/en\/record-rush-on-the-eight-thousander-manaslu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than ever before in a single season on Manaslu<\/a>. This means the number of climbers on the world\u2019s eighth-highest mountain has reached the level seen on Mount Everest, where a <a href=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/en\/mount-everest-rope-fixing-team-at-the-south-col-record-number-of-permits\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">record number of 492 permits<\/a> were issued last spring for foreign climbers attempting the summit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday, a nine-member Nepalese <a href=\"https:\/\/abenteuer-berg.de\/en\/rope-fixing-team-reaches-the-summit-of-the-eight-thousander-manaslu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rope-fixing team had reached the summit<\/a> of Manaslu, thereby securing the route to the highest point.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two climbers have died in an avalanche on Manaslu.
