If you think great Italian sparkling wine begins and ends with Prosecco, it\u2019s time to discover Trentodoc.<\/span><\/p>\n

While travelling through northern Italy, I couldn\u2019t resist trying a bottle of\u00a0Ferrari Brut, one of Italy\u2019s best-known\u00a0<\/span>Metodo Classico<\/span><\/i>\u00a0sparkling wines.<\/span> Made from 100% Chardonnay and produced using the traditional method\u2014the same method used in Champagne, where the bubbles are created through a second fermentation in the bottle rather than in a tank\u2014Ferrari Brut offers plenty of freshness, character and elegance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferrari\u2019s story begins in 1902, when Giulio Ferrari founded the winery in Trento with a vision of producing an Italian sparkling wine that could rival Champagne. Instead of relying on local varietals, he planted Chardonnay, recognizing that Trentino\u2019s mountainous climate\u2014with warm, sunny days and cool nights\u2014was ideal for producing grapes with flavor and acidity. Today, the Lunelli family owns the winery and has carried on Ferrari\u2019s legacy since 1952. Fun fact: Ferrari is also the sparkling wine poured on the Formula 1 podium.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the glass, Ferrari Brut shows a lively straw-yellow colour and a fresh, fruity nose. On the palate, it\u2019s crisp and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity and a subtle mineral character that reflects its Alpine origins. It\u2019s refreshing without being overly austere, making it a great aperitif and versatile enough to pair with food.<\/span><\/p>\n

A great reminder that Italy\u2019s sparkling wine story goes well beyond Prosecco.<\/span><\/p>\n
