Checking my phone today, I saw there was an alert that I had been tagged on Facebook.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Now, that can be a good thing, or that can be
\na bad thing\u2026<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I checked to see which this
\nwas, and found this post:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the spirit of cutest
\nthings, my littlest wants to spread some kindness and made a collection of
\ngifts to share with neighbors. It would mean a lot if that box was empty later.
\nHe even wrapped the gifts. Feels very much inspired by <\/span>Susan
\nThompson-Gaines<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The gift
\nstation is near our driveway at (location). I have no idea what is in here, but
\nit\u2019s the thought that counts?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Heart.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Melt.<\/span>\u00a0
\n<\/span>I couldn\u2019t shower and get dressed soon enough.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I <\/span>needed <\/i>a gift from the special box!!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

By the time I got my act
\ntogether to go check it out, the box had been brought inside due to snow (don\u2019t
\nwant the secret gifts to get wet now, do you??).\u00a0 <\/span>But that was a-ok by me, because I had hoped
\nto get to talk to the kid behind the kindness anyway, Rex.<\/span><\/p>\n

His mom called for him to
\ntell him he had a visitor and he came running.\u00a0
\n<\/span>I explained that I had heard about his box of gifts and was hoping to
\nget one.\u00a0 <\/span>He laid the box out in front of
\nme \u2013 closed so I could read the note.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease take one gigt for FREE
\n(big heart).\u00a0 <\/span>Have a nice day.\u00a0 <\/span>Open this box.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Then, this part must\u2019ve been a bit of an afterthought,
\nthe note said, \u201cAlso we take one of those from there\u201d with a small arrow
\npointing to the right.\u00a0 <\/span>To the LEFT of
\nthe box he had stacked up some painted wooden pieces.\u00a0 <\/span>His mom reminded him to check the direction
\nof the arrow, and he quickly moved the extra gifts to the correct side so that I
\ncould follow the instructions <\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

I eagerly opened the box.\u00a0 <\/span>I was curious what sort of magical mysteries
\nhe had wrapped!!\u00a0 <\/span>I narrowed it down to 3
\ngifts then asked Rex and his BFF Lucia help me decide.\u00a0 <\/span>My gifts were great!\u00a0 <\/span>I got a pen (branded from an old race for
\nSherriff) and a super shiny smooth rock.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Then I chose a Halloween decoration that he had painted that featured a
\nsnake.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

I had some questions for
\nthis kind kid, and he agreed to an interview. <\/span><\/p>\n

I asked my buddy what he
\nwas doing today and he said he wrapped up some special things.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cHow did you pick what
\nthings you would wrap up?\u201d I asked, genuinely curious.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His answer was as honest
\nas kids his age get.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThey are just,
\numm, stuff that I didn\u2019t want any more\u2026\u201d.\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I pointed out that the rock
\nhe gave me seemed extra special.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Rex\u2019s
\nfamily collects rocks with hearts on them, and he showed me that the one I scored
\nhas a \u201ckind of a heart\u201d on it.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I explained
\nto him that outside our house we host the Poll of the Day and that people use
\nrocks and gems I put out as voting pieces.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe rule is that people
\nthat vote outside our house,\u201d I explained, \u201ccan take one rock or gem a
\nday.\u00a0 <\/span>So, the thing is.\u00a0 <\/span>YOU gave this special rock to ME, I am gonna
\nput it there at the poll, and I bet somebody else will take it.\u00a0 <\/span>So, the kindness will just keep going.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

That idea made us both
\nsmile.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

His friend told me that
\nshe had helped pick out the things to give-away, but none were hers, they all
\nbelonged to Rex, including the very special paper they used to wrap
\neverything.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Turns out that was origami
\npaper that Santa had brought.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Isn\u2019t it
\nsweet of him to share that with others?<\/span><\/p>\n

I was so glad that his mom
\nhad tagged me.\u00a0 <\/span>I likely would not have seen
\nthe post if she hadn\u2019t, and would\u2019ve missed out on the magical kindness.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was all so simple
\nreally.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kid rummages through his
\nhouse and picks out gifts (or, as Rex told me, things he didn\u2019t really want
\nanymore).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Friends wrap the
\ngifts.\u00a0 <\/span>I bet that took quite a while.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then to find a box to put
\nthem all in\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then make the SIGN to go
\non top.\u00a0 <\/span>I wasn\u2019t there when that
\nhappened, but I have a feeling that was super fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then to place it all
\noutside and hope, hope, hope<\/b> people stop and get involved!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Because that is where the
\nmagic happens really.\u00a0 <\/span>When passersby not
\nonly open their eyes and physically see<\/i> the \u201cask\u201d but open their hearts<\/u><\/i>
\nand take time to stop and engage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes all it takes to
\nbe kind is to wrap up some leftover stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Or to pause for a moment
\nin your day to graciously accept a gift from a 6-year-old.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Want a bit of unsolicited advice
\nabout kindness?<\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Never pass up a
\nlemonade or hot chocolate stand.\u00a0 <\/span>Even if
\nthe lemonade is made from powder and the hot chocolate is made with water (not milk),
\nthe $1.00 you spend will brighten that kid\u2019s day.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Keep your eyes
\nand your heart open.\u00a0 <\/span>Opportunities to be
\nkind are quite literally all around us.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Sadly, most people don\u2019t notice them.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Model kindness.\u00a0 <\/span>Because kids are watching.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s simple really.\u00a0 <\/span>Just be kind<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nafter I left to say, \u201cYou made his whole day, which he needed! It\u2019s been a
