viewBox=&quot;0 0 1280 720&quot;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<div class=\"styles__Caption-sc-1y47awc-0 cruTJI\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1166790\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Solar and battery engineer Glen Morris.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"Divider__HR-sc-aucjre-0 hrxmbx styles__ImageDivider-sc-1y47awc-1 bUmOgI\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Solar and battery engineer Glen Morris, director of Smart Energy Lab, said the path to safe plug-in solar was not complicated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cGermany has had over a million of these systems plugged in for years and the UK has just written the rules into its wiring regulations,\u201d Mr Morris said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cWe do not need to invent anything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cWe need a product standard so the inverter shuts down instantly when unplugged, a cap of around 800 watts so it cannot overload a normal power circuit, and a simple registration with the network so they know it is there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cThat is a job for the Energy Ministers to hand to the regulators with a deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cNone of the concerns raised about plug-in solar needs new technology, they need a rule that says what is acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Plug-in solar systems do not require electricians to install the appliances and provide around 600-800 watts of power and would likely cost between $650 to $1300.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Community-based organisation Solar Citizens welcomed the announcement by Australia\u2019s Energy Ministers that they will work to make plug-in solar and batteries available to all Australians.
