Head <a href=\"https:\/\/c4aa.org\/news\/2026midterms\/\">here<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll be reviewing applications according to these criteria:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Focus and Clarity<\/strong>: Is the project clear in the people it\u2019s trying to reach and the specific nonpartisan voting objective it\u2019s trying to accomplish? Is it countering a major barrier to the midterms being free and democratic?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ingenuity and Impact<\/strong>: Does it center a tactically frivolous or otherwise strategically absurd idea? Do we see it succeeding and making a big splash?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ambition and Feasibility<\/strong>: Does it push the boundaries of what pro-voting activism can be, while seeming possible to achieve according to the timeline and resources laid out in the application?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"apply\" class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\">Application<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re looking for the best ideas vs. the best writing. We encourage you to be bold, honest, and brave. Together we know we can win big!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The application has closed. Thank you for your interest. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"program-timeline\" class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\">Program Timeline<\/h3>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>9\/8: Kickoff training, applications open<\/li>\n<li>9\/13: Applications close<\/li>\n<li>9\/23: Projects selected and funded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>9\/29: Cohort meeting<\/li>\n<li>October &amp; November: Projects realized, with mentorship available throughout<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"program-focuses\" class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\">Program Focuses<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Projects should focus on mobilizing and\/or protecting voters. Of course Election Day could be a focus, but there are so many opportunities to support the vote throughout the fall. Here are a few dates you could consider: <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Election Day (November 3)<\/li>\n<li>Vote Early Day (October 24)<\/li>\n<li>Election Hero Day (October 20)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>National Voter Education Week (October 5-8)<\/li>\n<li>Fall of Freedom (October 2-4)<\/li>\n<li>Dates that are meaningful and specific to your community! <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"tactical\" class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\">What is tactical frivolity?<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><figcaption>Trainer Ian Madrigal turns corporate greed on its head with the help of a top hat, monocle, and mustache<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tactical frivolity* uses humor, absurdity, and play to ridicule power and move people to act against it. It\u2019s tactical because it works: it gets tons of attention, it\u2019s surprising and weird enough that the police state doesn\u2019t know what to do with it (and so usually doesn\u2019t use force against it), and it\u2019s taken down authoritarian regimes around the world. You\u2019ve probably seen it this year with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themarshallproject.org\/2025\/10\/22\/trump-ice-portland-no-kings-protest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">frogs and unicorns standing up to ICE<\/a>. It made us laugh and kept us fighting, even against the biggest bullies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The claims being made against the upcoming elections are just as absurd, and they demand all of our ridicule. Let\u2019s make it tactical, too. Let\u2019s laugh our way to safe elections, play ourselves into huge voter turnout numbers, and have the best time getting our country back on track.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(*People call this all kinds of things. Laughtivism, causeplay, serious play, tactical performance \u2014 pick your fave or make your own. We\u2019re here for it all.)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"how-will-this-actually-help-the-midterms\" class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-c4aa-clipPath-heading\">How will this actually help the midterms?<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><figcaption>Trainer Mark Kendall uses parody to remind Georgians to vote for fair districts<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re going big on spectacle because in this moment, it\u2019s strategic. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing our friends at the ACLU have been thinking about is ICE at the polls. We don\u2019t know if ICE or other bad actors will be there, but actual presence, fear of presence, or lies about ICE presence could all significantly depress turnout. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what if we throw the most spectacular, visually-dynamic, and tactically frivolous parties by polling sites? This would totally shift the narrative around what\u2019s happening at voting locations. The amazing visuals would spread through earned and social media, countering fear and changing narratives about what it means to vote in 2026.
