This is the Coleman EVB200 off-road electric mini bike, as the name implies it\u2019s a minibike with an electric drivetrain, and it\u2019s suitable for use by both adults and teens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coleman has been making a variety of minibikes<\/a> for years now and they\u2019ve become a common sight at campgrounds, music festivals, county fairs, and farms across the country. This newer electric version keeps the popular styling but adds a low-maintenance electric drivetrain.<\/p>\n

History Speedrun: The\u00a0Coleman EVB200<\/h2>\n

The Coleman EVB200 is battery-powered member of Coleman\u2019s much-loved minibike family. It swaps the familiar pull-start, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine for a brushless hub electric motor in the rear wheel. Power is supplied by a removable 60 volt lithium-ion battery tucked into the frame where the engine would normally sit.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the main benefits of the EVB200 are the there\u2019s no pull cord, no gas tank to keep topped up, and no chance of burning your leg on the exhaust pipe. Though some consider that last point almost a rite of passage for new riders.<\/p>\n

On the EVB200 you just turn the key and the bike wakes up in \u201cP,\u201d squeeze the brake to drop it into \u201cD,\u201d then roll the twist grip to get moving. There are no gears and there\u2019s no clutch, so this is just about the single most friendly introduction to motorcycling a person could get.<\/p>\n

Coleman EVB200 Specifications<\/h2>\n

The electric motor is rated at 2.7 bhp, which is enough to have fun blatting around a field or campsite but not enough to get yourself into any real speed-related trouble. Well, probably.<\/p>\n

The bike is fitted with hydraulic forks up front, it has twin spring shocks out the back, and hydraulic disc brakes at both ends. An LCD dash shows speed, charge, and mileage, and there\u2019s also a headlight, brake light, and horn, but don\u2019t expect to be able to roll it down to your local DMV and get it registered \u2013 these minibikes are for off-road use only.<\/p>\n

The top speed is up to 20 mph and it had around 20-30+ miles per charge, depending on the weight of the rider and the type of terrain being tackled. While we wouldn\u2019t condone modifying bikes to make them more powerful (slow sideways glance at the camera), it is apparently possible to remove the speed governor and get a few more miles per hour out of the bike.<\/p>\n

Unlike the popular gasoline-powered Coleman minibikes<\/a>, this one is almost completely silent. The sound of the balloon tires rolling over leaves, grass, and twigs makes a lot more noise than the drivetrain.<\/p>\n

This quietness makes it ideal for use around animals, like in backyards or farm paddocks for example, as it\u2019s far less likely to startle or agitate them. The good torque response from the electric motor is an added plus, as well as the far lower maintenance requirements from the electric drivetrain.<\/p>\n

Coleman recommends that the EVB200 is stored indoors when not in use, though this is generally good advice for all motorcycles electric or otherwise. They also suggest it\u2019s ideal for riders aged 13 and up, however there are plenty of younger riders than that tearing up the dirt on them.<\/p>\n

A full charge takes 6 to 8 hours on a standard power outlet, to charge it you switch off the ignition, open the battery compartment cover on top of the frame, and plug the charger into the port.<\/p>\n

The EVB200 is available to buy direct from Coleman here<\/a> with a one year warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. The MSRP is $1,399.99 USD, which puts it well into affordable territory for most.<\/strong><\/p>\n
