Hollywood Records\u00a0is excited to announce the release of\u00a0The Banshees of Inisherin (Original Score)<\/em>\u00a0with music composed by\u00a0Academy Award-nominated\u00a0Carter Burwell. The 21-track album debuted on <\/strong>October 21 on all streaming platforms. Starring\u00a0Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Barry Keoghan,\u00a0The Banshees of Inisherin<\/em>\u00a0is directed and written by Martin McDonagh.<\/p>\n A frequent\u00a0collaborator of McDonagh\u2019s, Academy Award\u00ae-nominated composer Carter Burwell\u00a0previously worked on three of his films, starting with\u00a0In Bruges<\/em>. He also worked on\u00a0Seven Psychopaths<\/em>, as well as his Oscar-nominated score\u00a0for\u00a0Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri<\/em>, their last collaboration.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have similar sensibilities,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0explains Burwell.\u00a0\u201cMartin\u2019s writing is very particular \u2013 it involves a dark view of the world, a really vicious sense of humor, and a lot of humanity. That combination is something we have in common.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n McDonagh has always involved Burwell at script stage before the film is shot.\u00a0\u201cI approach every film as its own world. Even though Martin and I have done several films together and they\u2019re all Martin McDonagh films, they\u2019re all different.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Initially McDonagh already had, for one section of the film, a piece in mind that\u2019s performed by a Balinese gamelan ensemble \u2013 mostly metallic instruments. \u201cI happen to be a big fan of\u00a0gamelan music,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0continues Burwell.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s also a bit strange for a movie taking place in Inisherin. But I kind of like the strangeness, and I found myself weaving gamelan instruments into the score as an experiment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n In addition to the\u00a0gamelan Burwell used three main instruments:\u00a0 the celeste \u2013 a keyboard that plays bell sounds \u2013 the harp, and the flute. He says,\u00a0\u201cThese are all very pretty, almost childlike instruments, which wouldn\u2019t be out of place in a fairy tale. They fit P\u00e1draic, who is a little bit\u00a0of a man-child. As you follow the dark road that the story goes down, the music starts to feel more ironic. Even though these were all very light sounds, the tunes are not.\u201d<\/em>Burwell also worked with a small but strong orchestra at Abbey Road in London.<\/p>\n The Banshees of Inisherin\u00a0follows lifelong friends P\u00e1draic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson), who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned P\u00e1draic, aided by his sister Siobh\u00e1n (Kerry Condon) and troubled young islander Dominic (Barry Keoghan), endeavors to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer.
