Though it is her fifth studio album, this will be her first project released under her own record label, Pretty Swede Records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known for painting dark hues over euphoric feelings, she sticks to her grunge-pop roots that we all know and love. She details the aftermath of falling in love, and the bittersweet nature of the phenomena that often makes us feel alive. However, some of the more intriguing moments are about challenging society\u2019s tendency to put everyone into a box. Even if the confines of said box goes against one\u2019s own happiness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our worth is often treated as conditional given that we live a certain lifestyle and fit the mold. But what happens if you don\u2019t fit? For example, in \u201cSuburbia,\u201d she rejects the white picket fence fantasy. Settling down with a spouse and kids isn\u2019t everyone\u2019s idea of a good time, though it\u2019s what\u2019s expected. Especially if you\u2019re a woman! She persists, \u201cYou\u2019re the love of my life \/ But I-I-I can\u2019t be no Stepford wife.\u201d Making it clear that taking power over your own journey is truly the only way to live.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tove Lo - Grapefruit (Official Music Video)\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K52kfSE4N5U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lyrically, the album is quite straightforward, but touches on sensitive topics effortlessly. \u201cGrapefruit\u201d details the strain of an eating disorder: \u201cCounting all the calories, not get \u2019em up.\u201d Again, addressing another facet of conformity (i.e., the concept of beauty) through her own personal experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The synth on \u201c2 Die 4\u201d is a tad brassy, but evokes high spirits. I love songs that seem to embody the artist\u2019s perception of freedom, and this one is essentially about bathing in euphoria. \u201cDrag you out at midnight to dance in headlights and making out in the rain\u201d is just pure joy! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo One Dies From Love\u201d is a fantastic opener. Her rhythmic flair is engaging and mellow. I imagine it holding hands with \u201c2 Die 4,\u201d as they both represent the dichotomy between the sweet and sour aspects of love. Exemplifying the freedom that comes from giving your true self to someone, even if your heart is on the line!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tove Lo delivers an impressive soprano performance. Her rasp is prominent and her falsetto is charming on \u201cTrue Romance.\u201d An ethereal, haunting depiction of a lover ready to draw blood at the first threat to their perfect liaison. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The acoustic guitar (an unexpected pleasure) on \u201cI\u2019m to Blame\u201d complements the slight huskiness in her tone. She sings about feeling responsible for the downfall of her relationship (\u201cPulling us apart is all I\u2019m good for\u201d).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tove Lo - 2 Die 4 (Official Music Video)\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eUSkZCoGalo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collaborations on this album weren\u2019t very striking, but seemed to make up the more lighthearted tracks. \u201cPineapple Slice\u201d with SG Lewis is a chill, sensual jam (\u201cYou gotta taste what\u2019s in front of you\u201d). However, \u201cAttention Whore\u201d featuring Channel Tres proved underwhelming, as it felt like a repetitive filler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of this project is percussion-driven. Among them are my favorite tracks, \u201cKick In The Head\u201d and \u201cHow Long.\u201d Ending with a bang, the rest of <em>Dirt Femme<\/em> pales in comparison! \u201cKick In The Head\u201d is an incredibly satisfying change of pace with a funky beat. The \u201cmmm\u201d ad libs are captivating, and the chorus is fun to sing along to. Similar to \u201cSuburbia,\u201d it\u2019s about wanting to forge your own path, except the downside is feeling uninspired or as though you\u2019re falling behind. It can also be applied to the earlier theme of worth, and how society pressures us to be productive by any means necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closing track, \u201cHow Long\u201d sounds like a callback to \u201cI\u2019m to Blame.\u201d She confronts her partner\u2019s disloyalty and acknowledges the lack of control she has over the reality of the situation. \u201cI know the heart wants what it wants \/ There\u2019s no way to prepare for burning, brutal rejection.\u201d To top it all off, I adore the futuristic synth and crisp cadence!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Dirt Femme<\/em> is a solid twelve tracks fueled by heartbreak, untamed romance, and the desire to prioritize authenticity is every single way.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<p style=\"color:gray; font-size: 10px;\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<p><\/center><br \/>\n<!-- Bottom Post Link Ads --><\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo has returned with her latest album, Dirt Femme.
