The claim was immediately dismissed by charities who support refugees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Speaking at the Big Brue festival in Bruton, Somerset, Kruger said: \u201cBy the way, most of them comparatively wealthy and fit young men who\u2019ve crossed safe countries to begin the journey to the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Asked by moderator, the editor of the Independent, Geordie Greig, how he knew these men are wealthy, Kruger said: \u201cBecause they\u2019re paying thousands of pounds. They\u2019re paying thousands of pounds to people smugglers to get here. Comparatively wealthy, compared to the people who I think most of us can regard as really deserving of the compassion of the British taxpayer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Seema Syeda, a Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants spokesperson said it is untrue that most asylum seekers who arrive on boats are wealthy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">She said: \u201cThe reality is that most asylum seekers who arrive here are denied the right to work, live off as little as \u00a38 a week, and can end up in destitution. But in the end, whether rich or poor, people fleeing war and persecution deserve to be welcomed. The right to safety is a human right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cMany people arriving here have been forcibly displaced due to war, genocide or imperialism that the British state has, past and present, funded or supported.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Earlier this month, Reform politician Matt Goodwin, the party\u2019s unsuccessful candidate at the Gorton and Denton byelection, caused outrage when he said at the party\u2019s annual conference that the \u201cbest and the brightest\u201d of the British population had been replaced by \u201cdrug-dealing goat-herders\u201d through immigration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Kruger said Goodwin was correct to make these incendiary remarks. He said: \u201cThere are some drug-dealing goat-herders who we\u2019ve admitted to this country, so I mean, it\u2019s factual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Asked by Greig if he accepted that language, he said: \u201cYes I do.\u201d He added: \u201cAnd they don\u2019t like our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Kruger said he was concerned \u201cabout kind of massive cultural transformation. And yes, the admission to our country of many people who do not share the values that we all love, and I\u2019m afraid to say it\u2019s not just recent migrants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The Reform MP, who defected from the Conservative party last year, complained about second- and third-generation migrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">He said: \u201cIn fact, I think recent migrants are probably more pro-British because they\u2019ve come here for a reason. They want to be here. We\u2019ve got a problem with second- and third-generation immigrants because they are, and it\u2019s a fault of politics that we that this has happened. We have an alienated generation, many many people, millions of people, for whom they don\u2019t love their country, they don\u2019t think that Britain is great, and they don\u2019t feel that they are part of the mainstream society that that we have here, and that is our challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">He said current policies would cause civil war: \u201cWe continue down the path of segregation and of you know elite virtue signaling, pretending we\u2019re all a lovely multicultural diversity is our strength, and it\u2019s rude to even point out any problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Rachel Millward, deputy leader of the Green party, said: Reform is a party funded by billionaires that chooses to attack the most vulnerable in our society \u2013 people fleeing environmental breakdown, famine and war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cInstead of stoking division and hatred, just days after anti-immigrant protests brought violence and disorder to our streets, politicians need to step up and offer solutions.
