For a more comprehensive Hakone hotel review, keep reading below.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Hakone area is relatively well spread out and is made up of lots of smaller areas. Which area to stay in Hakone really depends on the attractions you and your family intend to visit.<\/p>\n Hakone is relatively well serviced by trains and buses, so no matter where you stay, I\u2019d check that its within walking distance to a bus or train station. All the family accommodation Hakone places to stay recommended in this guide are within walking distance to a train station or bus stop.<\/p>\n Below I\u2019ve provided a brief overview of some of the popular and affordable areas to stay with family.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Hakone \u2013 Yumoto is the gateway to the area of Hakone and where everyone needs to pass through, to visit Hakone.<\/p>\n While the area of Hakone \u2013 Yumoto has plenty of shops and restaurants, I don\u2019t recommend it as an area to stay while sightseeing in Hakone as you will need to continually travel up and down the mountain to see most of the Hakone attractions. However, if you just plan to stay overnight in Hakone and just do one day trip, the area could be convenient.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The next area you may choose to stay after Hakone \u2013 Yumoto is Tonosawa. This is a lovely little area by the river and only a short train ride away from Hakone \u2013 Yumoto. The area has some lovely accommodation with onsens and stunning mountain views.<\/p>\n Once again, though, I don\u2019t personally recommend this as an area to stay for sightseeing in Hakone as you will still need to continually travel up and down the mountain to see most of the attractions.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Located about 15 minutes by train from Hakone \u2013 Yumoto, the area of Miyanoshita is a reasonably central area for exploring most of the Hakone attractions.<\/p>\n Gora is an excellent place for those sightseeing in Hakone as it\u2019s very centrally located for all the various attractions around Hakone. The area is small and easy to walk around; however shops and restaurants are very limited.<\/p>\n In my view, Gora is the best area to stay while visiting Hakone. It\u2019s not only central for sightseeing, but you can also find some good budget accommodation here.<\/p>\n Gora is also super close to the start of the Hakone Ropeway, as well as the Hakone Gora Park.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Motohakone is another great central area for families sightseeing around Hakone. The area is located right by the stunning Lake Ashinoko where, on a clear day, you can get fabulous views of Mt Fuji<\/a>, plus the area has plenty of shops and places to eat. From Motohakone, you are well connected to transport for exploring the area.<\/p>\n Attractions in Motohakone include cruising in a pirate ship across Lake Ashinoko and the Hakone Checkpoint Museum,<\/p>\n Given there are so many benefits of staying in Motohakone, it does tend to be one of the more expensive areas for families to stay in Hakone.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Located in the north of Hakone, Sengokuhara is a beautiful area of Hakone and an excellent base for those wanting to spend time in the beautiful outdoors. Many people choose to stay in this area for its top-quality resorts, and proximity to Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi.<\/p>\n Attractions in the area include the Little Prince Museum, Venetian Glass Museum, as well as being close to Gotemba where the shopping outlets are and the base of Mt Fuji.<\/p>\n Before we get into where to stay in Hakone, Japan, I thought it was important to say a few things about the type of accommodation you will find in Hakone, particularly if you are after a budget hotel in Hakone.<\/p>\n First of all, like most places in Japan, accommodation in Hakone is not cheap. However, there are more affordable options to be found. For Hakone budget accommodation, I recommend you consider staying in a traditional Ryokan, which is a Japanese style inn. A Ryokan has Japanese futons as beds (mattresses on the floor) and usually shared bathrooms. Many of the Ryokans also have onsens available for guests to use.<\/p>\n What\u2019s an onsen you ask? Well an onsen is a Japanese hot spring or the term also refers to a bath you will find in a hotel, which uses the water from the hot springs. Some of the onsens are private within your hotel room, or some are shared facilities. And there are a number of hotels in Hakone with onsens to choose from.<\/p>\n Given I\u2019m all about good value accommodation, the hotels recommended here are basic in terms of amenities, however in my view they all offer lovely family accommodation. If you want something more, you will need to be prepared to increase your budget drastically.<\/p>\n Located right near Yumoto station, this Hakone family hotel offers low-cost family accommodation with plenty of conveniences close by.<\/p>\n Family rooms at the Yumoto Station Hotel Mirahakone<\/a> come in a couple of different options. A family room can fit four people in bunk beds and, if you\u2019re a larger family with infants, a maximum of 2 can stay for free on a pull out sofa. The other option is a junior suite, which can fit up to 4 people on futon beds and these rooms also have a bath rather than just a shower.<\/p>\n As with most budget Japanese hotels, the rooms are on the small side, but they are clean, bright, and comfortable. All rooms at the hotel have private bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs.<\/p>\n Guests will also have access to a small, shared kitchen, making it great for families who want to save a little money by catering for themselves. If you\u2019d rather not have the hassle of cooking, there is an Italian restaurant onsite.<\/p>\n The hotel is in a super convenient location with the Yumoto station just a 2-minute walk away, giving you easy access to all the local attractions. It\u2019s also surrounded by shops and restaurants, making it super convenient for families who want everything right on their doorstep.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n What we love?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The convenience \u2013 a 2-minute walk to the station and surrounded by restaurants with a great Italian restaurant onsite as well. After a long day exploring, it\u2019s nice to stay somewhere that has everything close by.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n What\u2019s not to love?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The hotel doesn\u2019t have a lift; it\u2019s only a small building so it shouldn\u2019t be a huge problem but maybe something to consider if you have small children.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Summary<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Large families with infants would be hard pushed to find a better room setup for such a reasonable price and, with the great location, Yumoto Station hotel Mirahakone is perfect for families.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Click here to check current pricing and availability.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n If you have a huge family or are traveling with another family and looking for self-contained accommodation, Condominium Mirahakone <\/a>is a great affordable option that offers more room choices than most in this guide.<\/p>\n Rooms can fit up to 10 guests!! Yep that\u2019s right; if you opt for a junior suite, you\u2019ll get four double beds and a double sofa bed. It is a little bit of a squeeze but definitely livable for a short stay. There is also the option of a family suite, which has two double beds and two singles. Smaller families would be comfortable in a standard family room with just one double bed and a pull out double sofa bed.<\/p>\n All the rooms come with private bathrooms that have baths instead of just showers, which is a great bonus for families with young kids. Every room also has a small but really well stocked kitchen with all the utensils you\u2019ll need to cook and even a coffee machine. Other room features include free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and soundproofing.<\/p>\n The hotel itself is in a good location with Yumoto station just 800m (12-minute walk) away, but if you don\u2019t feel like walking that far, there is a bus stop right outside. This best ryokan for families has an extra wow factor with traditional Japanese dishes available for breakfast and dinner.<\/p>\n Rooms at Manten-no-Hoshi<\/a> are basic, as you would expect to find in any traditional ryokan, and family rooms can sleep up to 5 on futon style floor beds. When the beds are rolled and put away during the day, which is the norm in ryokans, you\u2019ll have plenty of space to eat or relax. The flooring is also traditional Japanese woven straw matting called tatami.<\/p>\n All the rooms feature air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and fridges as well as a choice of colourful Japanese Yukata robes to really get you feeling at home.<\/p>\n The hotel itself has a public open-air onsen for guests but you can actually reserve the whole thing for private time slots, which is a real bonus if you want some relaxed family time. The hotel also offers a breakfast and dinner service, cooking traditional Japanese food that is delivered to your room, perfect at the end of a long, busy day exploring.<\/p>\n Manten-no-Hoshi is in a very quiet area and there are limited restaurants close by, but the hotel food is a great traditional experience and there is a convenience store right at the end of the street. Free Wi-Fi is also available in the reception area.<\/p>\n Tsukinoya is a little further from a subway station than some of the other options and you\u2019ll need to take a 15 to 20-minute walk to reach it, but there is a bus stop just 200m away. A short bus ride will connect you with one of two stations and lots of attractions close by, like the Hakone open-air museum. Every room has simple, modern decor and comes with a desk and couches to relax as well as a TV, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and en-suite bathroom. These rooms are actually surprisingly spacious compared to a lot of Japanese budget accommodation.<\/p>\n Guests at the hotel have access to a shared lounge area complete with table tennis and there is also a bar and restaurant within the hotel itself and laundry too. The indoor onsen is free for hotel guests to use throughout their stay but is not available for private hire.<\/p>\n Emblem Flow could not be in a better location for travellers to the Hakone area, it\u2019s incredibly central with the Gora station literally right next door, making it a great base to explore the surrounding area. Gora Park is just a 5-minute walk away and the open-air museum is only about 7 minutes on the train. There isn\u2019t a huge choice of restaurants nearby but if you walk just a few minutes to the next street down or on the other side of the station, there are enough to get by.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n What we love?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The location!!!
