Fidelity also has 684,000 customers with $1 million or more in an IRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cUBS data shows there are well over 23 million millionaires in the United States alone. Almost half a million new millionaires were created in 2025. Mind you, as you might have guessed, a large share of these millionaires are asset-rich and not investment-rich; wealth has been driven much higher with surging real estate prices and related home equity.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\" data-bfc=\"\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQi4wTegoIAggACAAIERAT\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQEw\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">\n<p><span class=\"iNqyIf\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><strong class=\"rQesXe MPyX\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Household vs. Individual Net Worth:<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/strong> According to <span class=\"\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-sfc-inited=\"2\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><a class=\"H23r4e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQy_kOegoIAggACAAIERAV\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQFQ\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 500; margin: 0px; text-decoration: underline 1px rgb(26, 13, 171); border-bottom: 0px rgb(26, 13, 171);\">Statistics Canada<\/a><!--TgQPHd|||[["https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca",null,null,[null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,[{"1218":[16]}]],16,null,null,null,null,null,null,[[1789214852443867,103528893,1091467071],null,null,null,null,[[2,0,0,20]]],null,"b38f8634-6756-410e-a085-1031bde54dd4"]]--><\/span>, the average net worth of a Canadian household recently topped $1.08 million, though the <em class=\"zhvwWe\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">median<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/em> household net worth sits much lower (around $520,000), showing that high averages are pulled up by top earners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Further: the top 1% of Canadian economic families hold 24% of the country\u2019s total net wealth and the top 10% hold 53% of it, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer\u2019s (PBO) 2023 high-net-worth families database.<\/p>\n<p><em>I suspect that stat in 2026 is now higher\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This brings up the subject of extreme wealth concentration that is increasingly receiving political attention in Canada and around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<ul>\n<li>There are an estimated 86 billionaire families in Canada, with the greatest number living in Ontario (38).<\/li>\n<li>There are 3,380 families in Canada with at least $100 million in wealth, with the greatest number living in Ontario (1,570).<\/li>\n<li>Conversely, while just 3,380 Canadian families have accumulated at least $100 million in wealth each, a staggering 4.4 million people lived in families below the poverty line, with the greatest number living in Ontario (over 1.9 million).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Extreme wealth concentration is a growing problem not because it allows just a few people to live the lives of significant luxury, but because of the extreme concentration of power that can go with it. Wealth concentration reflects societal opportunities for the select few and reflects the massive inequalities and therefore lack of opportunities for everyone else not in the 1%.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rich and wealthy these days, you should consider yourself lucky \u2013 although you may have worked very hard to get there. There are more rich people today than ever before. Fidelity also has 684,000 customers with $1 million or more in an IRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cUBS data shows there are well over 23 million millionaires in the United States alone. Almost half a million new millionaires were created in 2025. Mind you, as you might have guessed, a large share of these millionaires are asset-rich and not investment-rich; wealth has been driven much higher with surging real estate prices and related home equity.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\" data-bfc=\"\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQi4wTegoIAggACAAIERAT\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQEw\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">\n<p><span class=\"iNqyIf\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><strong class=\"rQesXe MPyX\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Household vs. Individual Net Worth:<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/strong> According to <span class=\"\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-sfc-inited=\"2\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><a class=\"H23r4e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQy_kOegoIAggACAAIERAV\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQFQ\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 500; margin: 0px; text-decoration: underline 1px rgb(26, 13, 171); border-bottom: 0px rgb(26, 13, 171);\">Statistics Canada<\/a><!--TgQPHd|||[["https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca",null,null,[null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,[{"1218":[16]}]],16,null,null,null,null,null,null,[[1789214852443867,103528893,1091467071],null,null,null,null,[[2,0,0,20]]],null,"b38f8634-6756-410e-a085-1031bde54dd4"]]--><\/span>, the average net worth of a Canadian household recently topped $1.08 million, though the <em class=\"zhvwWe\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">median<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/em> household net worth sits much lower (around $520,000), showing that high averages are pulled up by top earners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Further: the top 1% of Canadian economic families hold 24% of the country\u2019s total net wealth and the top 10% hold 53% of it, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer\u2019s (PBO) 2023 high-net-worth families database.<\/p>\n<p><em>I suspect that stat in 2026 is now higher\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This brings up the subject of extreme wealth concentration that is increasingly receiving political attention in Canada and around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<ul>\n<li>There are an estimated 86 billionaire families in Canada, with the greatest number living in Ontario (38).<\/li>\n<li>There are 3,380 families in Canada with at least $100 million in wealth, with the greatest number living in Ontario (1,570).<\/li>\n<li>Conversely, while just 3,380 Canadian families have accumulated at least $100 million in wealth each, a staggering 4.4 million people lived in families below the poverty line, with the greatest number living in Ontario (over 1.9 million).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Extreme wealth concentration is a growing problem not because it allows just a few people to live the lives of significant luxury, but because of the extreme concentration of power that can go with it. Wealth concentration reflects societal opportunities for the select few and reflects the massive inequalities and therefore lack of opportunities for everyone else not in the 1%.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rich and wealthy these days, you should consider yourself lucky \u2013 although you may have worked very hard to get there. There are more rich people today than ever before. Almost half a million new millionaires were created in 2025. Wealth concentration reflects societal opportunities for the select few and reflects the massive inequalities and therefore lack of opportunities for everyone else not in the 1%.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rich and wealthy these days, you should consider yourself lucky \u2013 although you may have worked very hard to get there. There are more rich people today than ever before. Fidelity also has 684,000 customers with $1 million or more in an IRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cUBS data shows there are well over 23 million millionaires in the United States alone. Almost half a million new millionaires were created in 2025. Mind you, as you might have guessed, a large share of these millionaires are asset-rich and not investment-rich; wealth has been driven much higher with surging real estate prices and related home equity.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\" data-bfc=\"\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQi4wTegoIAggACAAIERAT\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQEw\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">\n<p><span class=\"iNqyIf\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><strong class=\"rQesXe MPyX\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Household vs. Individual Net Worth:<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/strong> According to <span class=\"\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-sfc-inited=\"2\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><a class=\"H23r4e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjb3dPdgOmWAxW9uSsGHT93DkEQy_kOegoIAggACAAIERAV\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACBEQFQ\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 500; margin: 0px; text-decoration: underline 1px rgb(26, 13, 171); border-bottom: 0px rgb(26, 13, 171);\">Statistics Canada<\/a><!--TgQPHd|||[["https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca",null,null,[null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,[{"1218":[16]}]],16,null,null,null,null,null,null,[[1789214852443867,103528893,1091467071],null,null,null,null,[[2,0,0,20]]],null,"b38f8634-6756-410e-a085-1031bde54dd4"]]--><\/span>, the average net worth of a Canadian household recently topped $1.08 million, though the <em class=\"zhvwWe\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif, "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">median<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/em> household net worth sits much lower (around $520,000), showing that high averages are pulled up by top earners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Further: the top 1% of Canadian economic families hold 24% of the country\u2019s total net wealth and the top 10% hold 53% of it, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer\u2019s (PBO) 2023 high-net-worth families database.<\/p>\n<p><em>I suspect that stat in 2026 is now higher\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This brings up the subject of extreme wealth concentration that is increasingly receiving political attention in Canada and around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<ul>\n<li>There are an estimated 86 billionaire families in Canada, with the greatest number living in Ontario (38).<\/li>\n<li>There are 3,380 families in Canada with at least $100 million in wealth, with the greatest number living in Ontario (1,570).<\/li>\n<li>Conversely, while just 3,380 Canadian families have accumulated at least $100 million in wealth each, a staggering 4.4 million people lived in families below the poverty line, with the greatest number living in Ontario (over 1.9 million).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Extreme wealth concentration is a growing problem not because it allows just a few people to live the lives of significant luxury, but because of the extreme concentration of power that can go with it. Wealth concentration reflects societal opportunities for the select few and reflects the massive inequalities and therefore lack of opportunities for everyone else not in the 1%.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rich and wealthy these days, you should consider yourself lucky \u2013 although you may have worked very hard to get there. There are more rich people today than ever before. Almost half a million new millionaires were created in 2025. Wealth concentration reflects societal opportunities for the select few and reflects the massive inequalities and therefore lack of opportunities for everyone else not in the 1%.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rich and wealthy these days, you should consider yourself lucky \u2013 although you may have worked very hard to get there. There are more rich people today than ever before.
