For weeks, I\u2019ve found myself reflecting on GBV \u2014 not as a distant issue, but as something I once walked through myself. There\u2019s a pain that hits different when you realize <em>mtu anakuchapa mtu hajawahi hata ona your father or your guardian.<\/em> The audacity? Honestly\u2026 Sister Joy, please.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Do_Some_Women_Stay\"\/><strong>Why Do Some Women Stay?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me start by saying: I understand the mothers.<br \/>Women who stay because of their children \u2014 that one I will not judge. I have not yet worn the shoes of motherhood, so all I can say is: <strong>more grace, Mum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But my biggest concern today \u2014 my loudest \u201cbeef\u201d \u2014 is with the women (and men too) who stay in violent relationships when there isn\u2019t even a child involved. How do you go back? How does this person convince you to return to a cycle of violence wrapped in the blanket of \u201cI love you\u201d?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Painful_Story_Close_to_Home\"\/><strong>A Painful Story Close to Home<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GBV is not just something I\u2019ve seen in the news.<br \/>It affected my cousin deeply. Her boyfriend assaulted her so brutally, you\u2019d think it was mob justice. We did what survivors and their families are told to do \u2014 we reported. We followed up. We knocked doors that led to more doors. We explained the story over and over. But the system drained us until one day\u2026 we simply said, <strong>Tulimuachia Mungu.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That experience opened my eyes wider than ever before.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"GBV_Doesnt_Start_With_Blows\"\/><strong>GBV Doesn\u2019t Start With Blows<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the greatest misconceptions is that GBV begins the day someone hits you. No.<br \/>It starts with small things \u2014 tiny seeds that grow into a <a href=\"https:\/\/herpursuit.co.ke\/tribute-to-the-great-minister-osinachi\/\" title=\"\">forest of pain.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sinister comments<\/li>\n<li>Demeaning statements<\/li>\n<li>A disrespectful tone<\/li>\n<li>A subtle insult here<\/li>\n<li>A belittling remark there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then one day \u2014 boom \u2014 a slap.<br \/>After that, the escalation is fast and frightening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And here\u2019s the hardest part to admit:<br \/><strong>When you didn\u2019t speak up or draw boundaries in the beginning, you lose the authority to stop it when it becomes physical.<\/strong><br \/>Silence is not peace. Silence is permission.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CYou_Made_Me_Do_It%E2%80%9D_Is_Not_an_Apology\"\/><strong>\u201cYou Made Me Do It\u201d Is Not an Apology<\/strong><br \/><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s normalize saying this loudly:<br \/><strong>\u201cYou made me do it\u201d is NOT an apology.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please don\u2019t validate nonsense.<br \/>Don\u2019t excuse violence.<br \/>Don\u2019t normalize someone raising their hand on you. It is not love. Love yourself loudly. Love yourself enough to walk away when someone stops acting right.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_Someone_Lays_a_Finger_on_You%E2%80%A6_Report_GBV\"\/><strong>If Someone Lays a Finger on You\u2026 Report GBV.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Report.<br \/>To the police, your friends, your family, your employer \u2014 someone.<br \/>Silence is a slow death, and you deserve to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And honestly speaking\u2026 sai ndio mtu atakufunza manners at 25+?<br \/>At this age, when your parents should be enjoying the fruit of raising you, no one should dare cut it short. No one.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Girl%E2%80%A6_Walk\"\/><strong>Girl\u2026 Walk.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walk.<br \/>Run if you must.<br \/>Choose life.
